I only read the book because I got it for free and thought it was very poor, like it had been written by a child and I doubt it would have got published at all without a "celebrity" name attached. Usually when a film or TV programme is full of big name actors it is to disguise how poor the thing is. I won't be watching although I imagine it will be inoffensive enough and plenty will enjoy it.
I really enjoyed all three books.
When I heard they were making them into a film I was hopeful they would do the books justice. They've obviously spent a lot getting big name actors on board.
However the film was a little basic for me. I'm unsure why I didn't love it.
Helen Mirren was great. The female copper was also really good and fit the picture I had in my head.
Unfortunately for me Pierce Brosnan just wasn't the Ron I imagined, and his son also didn't work for me.
I like Pierce generally and liked the son as Lucifer.
Overall it was OK but I think my expectations were to high.

I bought the book on Audible, thankfully returns are dead easy. It was f
king woeful.The first book was very difficult to get into because of the amount of characters and how they fitted into the story.
But once it clicked I loved it and the second.
But the third felt silly and dull and I zoned out. Always second best to Horowitz's Hawthorne series though!

It’s a cosy murder mystery. It’s entirely in line with the genre. The film is watchable, exactly how it’s meant to be.
The books have sold st loads because the cosy murder mystery genre sells st loads and the same demographic who get the books will watch this on Netflix, ie my wife and her mother.

I’ve tried twice to finish the audiobook and tend to agree. I’ve tried his other novel from last year and gave up on that too. I really like RO but I really can’t see the appeal of his books. We had free tickets to Everyman and went in a trip out to see it.

The film was pleasant. A lightweight film just as I expected, something that could be a background film really. Cast was great, although we did think Pierce Brosnan was an odd choice as he's too young... He's 72!
So my review: Enjoyably lightweight drama if you go in not expecting an Oscar worthy film
