“Meet the shoplifters” Stacey Dooley
Discussion
A while back I started a poll on “who steals from self checkout” which had some strong feeling but basically confirmed PH demographic was similar to UK
Not sure if watching this full thing on BBC will get folk wound up or not, the trailer certainly has.
What I’m kinda surprised at is the comments on the Facebook page justifying…..

ETA the original poll

Reminds me of any post about litter/fly-tipping on Facebook. Instead of blaming the individuals responsible many blame the council. Personal responsibility is hard I suppose.
Facebook is full of muppets with zero personal accountability. It’s why I only use it sparingly for local stuff now - it’s too painful to be constantly reminded of how many stupid idiots I share the planet with. There’s another guy on the actual show, wheels his trolley over to Stacey outside & elaborated on his master scheme.
Bring in loads of folded empty bags for life & hide stuff under the unused ones so he can claim a mistake. Usually buts a couple of bottles of wine & hides a couple, because wine is quite expensive but helps him relax (& he’s on benefits which doesn’t give him enough for his wine).
He was daft enough not to hide his identity so I think he’s going to find himself banned shortly!!
Eye opener for me is around half of young folk think it’s ok to nick from big faceless corporations because they make loads of money….

Dooley doesn't even attempt to be scathing or judgemental with these anti-social scrotes, she and the leftie bed wetters at the BBC just give them a platform.

I hope I'm not alone in considering Dooley to be moron of monumental scale.I'm surprised nobody has yet developed a facial recognition technology to weigh customers on the way in and weigh them on the way out. Combined with the self check-out tills which know the accurate weight of every item you'd soon identify the scrotes and set off a loud klaxon. But that leaves the bigger question - what would anybody do about it?
I'm not going to start stealing stuff but I feel that I'm not getting value for money from products anymore.
For example my preferred soap is now reduced in size but more money, the filling in biscuits has reduced to half what it was and a packet of crisps has 80% air, I could go on endlessly about low quality ingredients.
I feel like I'm getting tricked/robbed every time I go shopping.

On the contrary; she used to make documentary/reportage things about Gaza and other worthy topics that didn't get watched very much, she moved to making click-bait topics like this and now she's minted.Getragdogleg said:

Stuff does seem to be ridiculously expensive now. Last week, I decided I wanted mini eggs - but it was over £4 for a bag that really wasn't that big. Although I'm sure I could save up, it really didn't seem worth the money. For example my preferred soap is now reduced in size but more money, the filling in biscuits has reduced to half what it was and a packet of crisps has 80% air, I could go on endlessly about low quality ingredients.

We flew somewhere on Friday evening - and although I realise that an airport is a captive market and stuff is over priced - I was a bit shocked to see that a 1Kg back of M&Ms was over £20!
On the other hand - I didn't consider stealing in either case.......

FYI - the smaller bags as well as being easier to fit in your pocket/up your sleeve are often cheaper, On the other hand - I didn't consider stealing in either case.......
TV Snacks
I’m one of those people that uses the £/kg or Ltr on the shop labels to determine my purchase. (I don’t get a calculator out!)
M&M’s are often cheaper per KG in smaller bags (supermarket prices are about £13-18/Kg)
Cadbury’s chocolate is also cheapest per kg to buy in the pack of 9little bars than the big bars
I wonder if this is a subtle way of charging affluent customers who can afford the bigger portions more as they don’t notice.

What surprised me about the bit I saw in the link was the way the shoplifter described it as a perfectly normal lifestyle choice. He was making the lifestyle choice to work part time - and therefore it was necessary to supplement his reduced income.
I've always felt I was a bit too young to retire - but I suppose if I could supplement my pension with shoplifting I could hand my notice in tomorrow.

I have never got why security don't seem to do all that much?
Are they mainly there to break up fights or remove threatening people from the store?
I'm always quite shocked to see all the staff at my local Tesco wearing camera's in case of abuse. It's not just big shops either a friend owns a bakery and has put up a sign saying abuse won't be tolerated, after some one spat at their employee over the counter. This is all in a pretty quiet part of North Norfolk.
