Being interviewed on BBC1 now.

Hypocritical arse and being called out on it.

Personally I support him, the mobile distraction is completely out of hand and driving standards relative to the speed cars can go at and the volume of traffic have never been lower.

I'm really not a fan of everyday people trying to police others. However, the amount of drivers I still see using their phones as I filter through London traffic on the motorbike or bicycle is off the scale. They can be identified before I've even seen the phone in their hands, due to their sloppy driving/lack of attention. Therefore, I don't think what he's doing is too bad, but I don't 100% agree with it either.

As I understand it he targets motorists on the basis that they cause more damage than other cyclists. Having been knocked over twice by cyclists when I was crossing the road on the walking green at pedestrian crossings, I hope that Mikey broadens his search.

Both cyclists were Masters of Irony and shouted 'Look where you are going'

I’ve not watched it, what’s the hypocritical element?

Cycling Mikey has a point and I have seen his videos. However, he is for all intents and purposes a vigilante. Hanging around looking for offences is not his job. I think it is different if he chanced upon offences.

He has served the Police with a lot of evidence that had led to prosecutions, but he has been attacked several times. His behaviour is odd and challenging. I think such work is best left to the authorities.

I can see both side of the arguments sometimes

I believe he lost his dad to a car accident of sorts

It’s a simple rule not to use your phone when in charge of a car, however I can understand why busy people do it when sat still in heavy London traffic

Some of the people he catches I have a degree of sympathy for, others throw them in jail

I often wonder for each clip that makes it to YouTube how many go in the bin

The law is quite clear on the matter between cyclists and pedestrians... Maybe we need a law that automatically makes the cyclist at fault in any incident between pedestrians and cyclists... So their insurance (that cyclists constantly assure me they all have) can cover any injuries.

Yes I would agree with that, in both cases the cyclists just rode off, one was on a Boris Bike, could even have been Brahms and Liszt, the other was a classic MAMIL riding in a group of other cyclists in Canary Wharf, one knocked me down and they all sped off.

The problem is making the cyclist stop, without a registration number he, invariably he I suspect, will be difficult to trace.

Ooh you cynic! biggrin

Shirley it would have been better for Cycling Mikey to appear on Jeremy Vines show? Would two negatives make a positive?

That bloke is a total throbber. Not clicked a mikey link for years, because i don't want to fund his bilge.

What i saw years ago was a mix of going looking for trouble and finding it, and going all clipboard warrior and reporting insignificant transgressions to the police like a st version of 1940's east germany.

I love riding my road bike. I love less that 5% of people hate cyclists, and so they're aggressive on the road. Mikey is trying to make that 6%. IMO, he's not helping, in any way shape or form.

I am surprised that nobody has given him a smack, perhaps they have.

Let's not forget that pedestrians are more likely to jump red lights than cyclists. The amount of near misses and accidents that could have been caused by pedestrians walking into the road without looking / on their phones / blatantly jumping the red light is also ridiculous. If I cycle or take the motorbike into London, it happens at least five times each way.

Regardless of what you think of the man, I could not give a single fk about any driver caught using their phone at the wheel.

Agreed. Maybe if people didn't behave like dicks Cycling Mikey wouldn't be an issue?

Any time you're in a traffic light queue you'll find one or two cars that don't notice the lights have turned green until somebody behind them beeps, usually because they're on their phone. Knobheads like these make things worse for the rest of us - they're the ones that should be the focus of our ire, not CM.

Look, there is some horrific driving out there and people on their phones etc. are a small segment of the issue, which definitely needs to be addressed.

That said, you don't need to be a self centred cock womble like this that only calls out the odd motorist. I guarantee for every one of these drivers I've seen an equally culpable cyclist.

Dunno if it's that binary. His dad was killed by a drink driver, so his motivations are deep seated & if we're honest, understandable. But it's also possible to hold the competing notions that what he does is more or less in the public good but at the same time he's an overbearing, confrontational man with a self generated mandate.

Knocked you down and sped off...course they did hehe

Mikey certainly has some issues, but anyone that uses their phone whilst driving deserves everything they get and personally I'm agnostic as to how they get their just deserts.

And yet far far more people are killed by cars than by bicycles.
