TV mini-series (8 episodes) starring an unrecognisable Colin Farrell - judging from the trailer and HBO behind it, this does look rather good?

Starts 19 Sept. Available on Sky Atlantic.

I don't really understand why they choice Farrell for this role at all. (in the film or the TV series)

He's a decent, good actor. But why bother when you have to do tons of prosthetic work AND an accent for filming?

Excluding David Suchet who is perhaps a little too old now, which actors who look like penguins do you think they should have potentially gone for?

From the small snippets of the various trailers, he looks to have captured the essence of the Penguin very well. The prosthetics look next level IMO, so relying less on what the actor looks like but how they deliver the role.

Just seen the first episode. Proper dark and gritty, like 70s New York street scenes. Cannot wait to see how it develops, loved how it’s started.

While The Batman with Robert Pattinson was no Dark Knight, It did give a glimpse of this series. I enjoyed the movie and hope this series is along the same lines.

Agree it does seem off to have Colin Farrel layered up with prosthetics.

People need to get past the Colin Farrell thing. If you didn’t know it was him you’d be none the wiser about the actor playing Penguin or the prosthetics - neither him nor his performance detracts from the show. Perhaps he was chosen because the producers think he can act?

Maybe because he was one of the executive producers?

And how did he get that gig? Like I say, people need to get past Colin Farrell and just watch it for what it is.

Great first episode, always liked the Oswald Cobblepot character from the Gotham series.

Not really into comic book stuff, but really enjoyed the first one.

Looking forward to more, but a bit concerned there's nothing scheduled to watch next week and no series link on Sky.

I finally got round to watching the 1st episode... really enjoyed it. His little sidekick feels a bit out of place (for me) but Farrell himself is great IMO.

Would it be better to watch the Batman before watching this?
