£280k Greatest Hits Radio Competition - How?
Discussion
It's a network competition so its on loads of different radio stations (I listen to planet rock and kerrang and it's on both of them) and it costs £2 to enter so I'm sure that soon racks up the £££ when you've got millions? of listeners
They usually do "make me a winner" which is daily and gives away similar amounts over the course of a week.

The competition is shared across loads of radio stations that constantly push their listeners to pay the money to participate each week. Presumably their receipts exceeds the costs of the prizes.
Planet Rock plays occasional bits of rock music between a rolling adverts for their phone competition and gambling website. With an incredibly short playlist, and with Thin f*cking Lizzie massively over-represented.

I suspect no-one tunes in to listen to the competition but those who enter might listen longer to see if they win.PhilboSE said:

"There's going to be a jail break, somewhere in this town". I'd start by looking over by the jail if it were me.addey said:

I'm never ceased to be amazed when some people win this, and break down in tears when trhey get told they've won say £100k.Edited by addey on Wednesday 14th August 21:25
They then go on to tell the presenter that the money will mean they can have a family holiday, put the money towards a deposit on a house, pay off some bills etc etc, and that they're currently not working.
Then they follow it up with something like "I've been entering daily for the last 18 months etc and say they cant' beleieve they've won"
I'm a cynical old fool at he best of times, but anyone who is entering a text competiton every day (at £2 a day) is happily blowing £60 a month on a competition, when by their own admission, they are not at all flush for cash, and in fact are likely in a pretty awful place from a debt perspective.
I do wonder how they (Bauer) are allowed to constantly target people with ads about entering the competition, so frequently during the shows, it just doesn't seem responsible at all/ duty of care etc.

I lost interest in Planet Rock when their hard on for Joe Bonamassaa showed no sign of going down. They'd introduce him Joey B sometimes before playing his songs and that just did it for me. So it was either smash the radio up or forget about PL.Planet Rock plays occasional bits of rock music between a rolling adverts for their phone competition and gambling website. I'm always surprised when they forget they've entered the make me a winner competition! They then go on to tell the presenter that the money will mean they can have a family holiday, put the money towards a deposit on a house, pay off some bills etc etc, and that they're currently not working.

PR was the only radio station I listened to for years, loved the music, the DJ's and the banter. Haven't listened for about a year now due to the ever increasing "make me a f***ing winner" ads. It got to the stage where whenever I switched it on it was an ad.Although you can enter for free, most probably do it via text at £2 per text. This competition, in different guises has been running since at least 2017 (I know because I've been entering it every single time lol). I did win £2,000 on it in 2017.
You can enter 60 times for free for tomorrow's draw, it means calling a 0330 number 60 times and each call lasts about 30 seconds. I've done my 60 entries for tomorrow

But it’s generally not the sort of music I want to listen to. And, you can’t access the GHR stream via a generic app, you have to download their app which is more data-hungry.
The whole commercial radio thing is in danger of eating its own tail.
Not just one station….
Driving round the country it’s amazing listening to same things on supposedly different stations.
I paid for a few entries this week!
Loads of folk speak about this competition all over, I think it gets a few folk in listening.

Glad to see its not just me thats fed up with the adds on Planet Rock then.I think there are more when its streamed than on dab.I have just about given up with it but theres not a lot of choice for that style of music.Tried Radio X classic rock but they just play the same tracks day after day.

Good shout, I had no idea about this, I just thought it would be charged at a higher rate, until I checked, and 0330 calls are included in a lot of plans free minutes.Skyedriver said:

100% this , it has ruined my enjoyment of planet rock , the radio ads are irritating enough without "make me a winner" every 10 minutes I listen to Kerrang a lot when driving and the adverts for this gambling disguised as a competition are frustrating and diminishing my enjoyment of an otherwise excellent radio station.
It seems underhand to me to be pushing this 'competition' whereby not only do need to be picked as a winner, but you also have to be further qualified by answering the phone promptly and giving them the correct answer.
I am not a fan.
