I don't watch live TV etc at home, but I recently received an email from TV licencing saying their records show I used BBC iplayer.

Now, I logged into my account at a friend's to watch the football, at a place which has a TV licence. I can only assume this is what their records show, and not that iplayewas watched at my address.

They seemingly have no way of getting in touch with them other than to get a licence. No email address or phone number. Using their online question thing is daft, if I go to ask about querying whether I need a licence it just tells me to do a check if I need one, there's no way to ask them about the situation.

Any thoughts?

Cheers.

If you dont need a licence, you dont, strange edge cases or no.

They cross reference the email or postcode of the BBC account with whoever doesn't have or has declared they don't need a licence. If they match, you get an email. Nothing more sophisticated than that.

You don't need one if you were using your account at an address that has a licence.

I'm curious. Why if your friend had a TV licence and by extension I'm assuming a TV, did you need to log into your player at their house?

Surely you could have just watched their licenced TV?

When I log in to iPlayer it ask you to confirm if YOU have a valid TV licence and you don’t.

Tell them your account must have been hacked if they revert.

I was away at theirs for a few days. They don't like football and wanted to watch something else on their TV.

The Wimbledon finals were in UHD on iPlayer so that's another case when you might log in.
