I've not seen this advertised, or whether it's old and I've just missed it. It came up earlier on my YT feed - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOqaVBHBv4I
I watched it and it's left me frustrated and confused if I'm honest. I have always assumed stuff like this may go on, but I've never seen it so maybe I'm lucky. The people involved clearly know they are committing crimes but couldn't really care less and seem to believe they are above the law and that their driving like Lewis Hamilton so accidents just won't happen.
I'm just baffled why they believe this and why in this day and age it should be easy pickings for the police to clamp down on this.
I'm all for a bit of speed, but racing on a public road etc, there's a time/place as ever for these things.

I quite like how the journalist Ben Zand, subtly takes the piss out of them. Their scene came off looking bad in this.
Chav: “i kNoW wHaT iM dOiNg. iM SaFe. iN mY 25 yEaR oLd PoLO I’ve jUsT wAsTeD £30,000 oN”.
Zand: “But the last person to crash said the same thing and everyone thinks you’re a liability and a throbber on a night”.

They think they can get away with it because by and large they can get away with it.I'm just baffled why they believe this and why in this day and age it should be easy pickings for the police to clamp down on this.

How many times on a given journey do you come across a Police car on the road? I’d wager you could probably go months without seeing one if you just happen not to cross paths with the single car doing the rounds covering a massive area.
It’s the same reason people use mobiles while driving, run illegal plates, etc. Statistically you’re not going to see a cop car, and if you do they’re unlikely to be in a position to pull you over, assuming they didn’t already have more important things to do.
We need a lot more Police on the road in my opinion. Deterrents only work when they are conspicuous.
Idiots like these really ruined having modified cars for me.
I had a heavily modified 200SX S14a, my mates had a PS13, Rx7 FD and a nicely tuned MR2 Turbo. All of them were heavily modified and very capable cars, but we never raced them on the roads. We would sometimes drive together to get somewhere like Caffeine and Machine or Japfest.
Then the "no cruising" rule came in to the black country, where 2 modified cars driving together were considered as cruising and you could get a section 59 just for driving with your mate. We were often pulled over (even though we never drove above the speed limit) just because we were in modified cars. It got a bit silly eventually so I sold up and bought a track car instead. We even had a newspaper article about the local racing but they used pictures of our cars for the article. Labelling us "boy racers".
Meanwhile these idiots get away with actually racing down the local dual carriageways and have done for years.

^ The programme still comes up for me.
I watched it, apparently there's something like this happening from time to time on a stretch of dual carriageway near me up here in the north. I'm not certain why it's beyond the police to organise themselves to block both ends of the road and then just ticket / seize all of them. That sequence in the programme showing a load of cars parked alongside the motorway while others were racing - a few cars and vans blocking the stretch front and back would do it.
This kind of thing winds me up, I don't know if it's their refusal to accept that stuff can go wrong despite the number of times the presenter tried to get them to, or the general "we're not doing any harm" attitude as they sit revving the things. I love the sound of a powerful engine, but I don't get the appeal of the intentional backfire. I went to a local car meet that I thought would be classics, but turned out to be a lot of this kind of stuff - getting in cold cars and revving them to the red line, driving off down the road, turning to come back and pop and bang past the pub. No appeal for me.

The idiot organiser in the balaclava is old enough to know better. Part of the blame lies with the people who agree the finance deals for these cars with young men.
I’ve just started watching this, 3:47 in. Two words describe the bloke in the balaclava:Drug dealer.
ETA: Fastest convertible in Europe…
ETA: How the hell can you get 21 points in 3 years and think you are a good driver? I have had 6 points in total over 30 years!

I absolutely love the Fast & Furious films. But there's no doubt that they totally glamourise this sort of behaviour to the young and impressionable, as well as giving a very false impression of the risks. Driving at crazy speeds and drifting through built up areas (the middle of London in one of them). Cars barrelling head on into walls at 100mph+ and then the driver staggering out with a minor cut to the forehead (always a minor cut to the forehead) rather than being, well, dead. Indeed even stuff like Top Gear has been glamorising fast road driving for years.
Kids are watching this stuff and then emulating it. It's not a surprise really. Not sure what the answer is, shame to ban the films (and anyway, where do you stop with that logic), but it would be good if you saw, I don't know, someone in hospital having it explained to them that they'd never walk again after a stupid crash. Not really the tone of the movies though.

Would there be any sense in limiting the BHP/age of drivers? It seemed like there are a long of young men with high powered cars.
Granted, that doesn't deal w/ the crap driving part but speed appears to be a key issue.
Unless you can limit speed it's pointless, you could still be doing 70+ in a 30 in a 10 year old 1 litre Yaris. And even if you could restrict the power/speed it wouldn't take long for someone to find a way around it to derestrict them.Granted, that doesn't deal w/ the crap driving part but speed appears to be a key issue.
Probably wouldn't help much in London but with tracks having ever more stringent noise limits and the price of a track day getting more and more expensive is it really a surprise these lads take to the roads to do this? Even if local disused airfields allowed drag racing / drifting evenings you'd still get idiots closing roads to do this kind of idiotic stuff but Id wager you'd likely see a reduction.

These were not lads, these were grown adults, which judging by some of the kit they were driving were not short of a few quid. I am quite sure they could afford to pay for a track day, but they are not interested in driving fast, they are interested in acting like a tt and showing off.Circuits are no good for showing off, not enough people to see you.

Plus these people are actually terrible drivers with no skill whatsoever. They think that flooring the throttle in an automatic car with traction control in a straight line while leaning back and sawing at the wheel with full elbow delete whilst overtaking makes you a skilled driver.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
