is absolutely terrible. In my opinion, at least. Bit of a shame.

I watched it with my partner who hails from the Middle East (not Turkey) but she was pleased to see something that included culture she recognised.

So, as I watched it with her, I enjoyed it because she enjoyed it.

2 episodes in and I'm still not sure about it but will watch some more to see if it grows on me.

We gave it 15 minutes summarising very quickly "It is 'Death in Paradise', but in Turkey"

Lead old detective was amazing on screen, so much charisma, loved to have an insight to Turkey and i'll be honest was not aware of how much it was like proper middle east yet in EU and seem by this at least to be pretty moderate?

I loved it personally.

I think Turkey is part way through the accession status rather than an EU member.

Ohh!
Was thinking I was about to see why there were so many new Turkish barbershops popping up with no customers

That would be a delight.

The "detective" isn't an interesting character (actor?) but the inspector is a brilliant actor. He completely steals the show.

It's interesting.

Yes i meant him, the old guy, fantastic and made the whole thing watchable.
I did google Turkey and they aren't actually moderate at all, at least not current PM anyway.
I mean it easy to find out that the UK is racist, homophobic and anti trans as the internet tells me everyday....

Never seem to hear much about these countries though......hmmmmmm

If the internet is telling you you're racist/homophobic/anti trans then perhaps it's you, as my internet doesn't tell me that hehe

Also, do you think there's a conspiracy to hide negative stuff about 'foreign' countries, or do you perhaps think it could be because you're consuming stuff from the internet written in English and aimed at an English audience?

Anyway - I came here to post that I quite enjoyed the Turkish detective - only part 1 watched so far. I was expecting a pastiche of 'Death in Paradise', but it was better than that. I haven't read the books, but assume that the ex-Met copper character has been shoe-horned in to make the series relateable to UK audiences as the Turkish Inspector is obviously the main character in the show...

Oh dear....
I actually said, quite clearly, the internet tells me the UK is racist etc etc.... the UK, not me, just a bloke with mix race kids although to me in reality they are just kids.
Not to say i can't be racist because i have mix race kids, but i am not and never have been a racist, I hate everyone equally.

There is no conspiracy to hide other countries treatment of its people, trans, homosexuals, but we have to be tolerant in the UK for others intolerance, that's where we have got ourselves...
So you won't really hear anyone shouting about those countries or certainly some of the people living here who agree with their countries stance, because it far easier and safer to just shout about thick racist white English people....

Agreed

The inspector completely owns this.

Eps 3 and 4 really good.

We've binge-watched all eight episodes, and we enjoyed it.
Yes - the 'fish out of water' concept is a bit formulaic, but a good mix of characters (especially the Chief), an original location setting, and pretty good two-episode stories.
Hope they make more.

And finally I've watched this series!
Similar and a few different reactions to earlier adopters smile

Initial strike was poor acting. Clarified on progression to centre on the Brit-out-of-water character. I see from where expectations of Death in Paradise came although they were soon dispelled I think. And his shoehorned-in feeling.
Some other characters somewhat stereotypical. Hard as nails female detective and bhy prosecutor, nerdy IT chap.
Finale was a bit of a struggle. Fights a bit James Bond. Graphic shooting(s) jarred with the rest of the series tone.

Stuck with it and was drawn in. Agree the Inspector was the boss. Will watch again. Maybe the next series'll find a more consistent feel.
