Saw an item on TV recently about a teacher who was teaching kids using rap music. One student in particular managed to sing a whole rap song. Now this may not sound much but this student whilst being very young(must admit i can't remember her age)had not spoken a word at school up to this point and by all accounts this young man was getting amazing results with otherwise difficult to teach students. This got me thinking if we must have an honours list these are the sort of people who should be on it not overpaid over hyped prima dona sports personalities who will never have to struggle for anything in life.

Remember a lot of them do they just don't get the fanfare the celebrity honours do.

Whenever honours are published there's usually a PDF on the Government website.

There will be loads of names of people you've never heard of being rewarded for exactly this sort of thing.

These sorts of people are on the honours list, they just don't get the publicity.

Example:

My old 6th form tutor was awarded an MBE for services to charity - he spent a lot of his free time fundraising and helping children from poor backgrounds.

He was on the Honours list in his respective year, along with Michael Gambon, Elton John, Andy Green and literally hundreds of other 'normal' people.

I agree with the OP and the other comments. One thing to remember though is that some famous people don't get the honour for the thing they are famous for - they get it for good causes. Often for something in particular they are really passionate about and are lucky enough to have the opportunity to help with. I have met Dame Penelope Keith (who is lovely) and she isn't a Dame for being in The Good Life (funny as it was).
