I've never listened to them! Until I came across these guys:

For some unknown reason (I don't listen to podcasts) this randomly came on my car when connected to my phone -

the ballad of grit, have you perceived in life?

It's a brilliant subject. The presenters are marmite but if you've got time in the car I'd recommend trying it.

The live show about the Titanic is also brilliant.

No such thing as a fish

Made by the guys who compile the questions and do the research for the show QI. If you like that, you'll like this.

And anyone isn't familiar with his stand up - it's all on Netflix and very well worth a watch. Properly funny!

The Rest is Entertainment is a brilliant insight into how the entertainment industry works, giving technical analysis of pop culture developments. Richard Osman and someone else who is really close to the inner workings of film and TV.

Does anyone know how lucrative Podcasts are these days?

Seems like every man and his dog have one and the barrier to entry is pretty low.

I assume there are some earnings per view and most also host the video on a Youtube channel to double the exposure.

Many are also hosted by folks who own / promote their main business as well of course.

Depends on the advertising. Suspect nobody's becoming a millionaire out of them.

In many respects they're the mirror for radio of what's happened to TV. On-demand, genre to suit, cheap to make, no real rules etc. I've been into them since the very early days of Gervais & Herring when I was doing a long commute.

Bit of a shame that the BBC are doing their usual strong arm stuff when late to the party but there seems to be plenty of space left. I've never really been a fan of talk radio but now I listen to ever more of that format on podcasts, they're also effectively a magazine replacement.

Well, Rogan got paid $250m to renew with Spotify, so I'd say some are pretty lucrative.
That before his YouTube money and other earnings.

If you are with one of the big networks and take their advertising then I think it can be a tidy income if you have good download numbers.

Someone like Rory Stewart and Alasdair Campbell are making huge amounts, especially as they are selling live tickets in some big venues.

Can't say what the rest of his interviewees are like but this lady is amazing. Her knowledge and memory is just crazy. It's a very interesting insight in to terrorism specifically in the middle east
