Something about Miriam
Discussion
Early 2000s reality show, 6 guys vie for a hot women, that unbeknownst to them is actually trans.
Amazing 3 part documentary about the wild west of reality shows back then and even now.
Absolute car crash, but man the women Miriam is so so hot.
She ended up killing herself aged 38.
Anyone watch it?

Yes I watched it , I know it was a different time and all but what on earth were they (Sky ? ) thinking when they made it?
They just didn't think it through.....and Miriam was incredibly naive to think it could have a happy ending.
Suicide seems unlikely given the position the body was found in and Miriam's pre death injuries.
No one came out of it well

It’s covered in this BBC R4 podcast around reality TV in general, I found it an interesting listen. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand/p0c5w0zm but I believe there’s been a TV prog specifically about this series on somewhere this week.

Are you saying that there is an 'about' somewhere? What channel/streaming service?
I'm sorry that he/she killed herself.
Read this thread earlier then put the telly on to see that there's a three part documentary on Channel 4: Miriam: Death of a Reality Star. Are you saying that there is an 'about' somewhere? What channel/streaming service?

I watched the C4 documentary too. I also think it was utterly baffling why Sky thought it was a good idea but I guess it was a different time. The reaction when the guys that didnt win found out the truth was nasty but I guess predictable. A disappointing part of the show was Miriam's mother saying she could not have killed herself because it was not possible to do alone - but that claim not being examined. I hope the police did look into it at the time. Her father's change of heart at the end took me buy surprise. I thought it was good of him to take part and talk openly.
One more thing, it was also good the the TV people were open about their attitude at the time - that it was all about entertainment and ratings and they didnt look much further than that. A shame though.

I have read the Guardian review which makes some good points about how this documentary gets to show the unaired actual show and re live it with the same sort of gratuitous moments but under the guise of a factual reportage....
Its a strong point, but how else could you show it?
Miriam as sad as it all was, wanted the fame, yes the TV company should of been no where near doing a show like this, but TV will always have a stream of people willing to do anything.
Personally if it looks like a hot woman, hotter than most actual women, and your attracted to them, that is totally normal IMO so stupid idea for a show from the get go, no need for a bloke to get funny about it, but in fairness to Tom and Scott they were lied to and really felt strongly for her.... and logistically once you know she's got a male appendage, it just can not work if your straight.
