Michael Portillo, 'Long Weekend'

Not sure about ‘Michael, goes behind the scenes’ bits, I prefer when he just narrates, rather than getting stuck in.

I’m surprised by his age, always thought he was older (certainly not because of looks) I just assumed he’d been round longer.

He is clearly well educated and rather worldly, but something about him, always makes me feel, he is holding something back.

All that said, I really enjoy his programs and this one is no different, well worth watching, as usual his approach to attire doesn’t disappoint.

Very food based.

"Anyway, now it's time for lunch (again) !"

I through it was very good.

I noticed on the credits there was a map, with 6 cities highlighted. I wonder if that means there's a seconds series of 3 planned if the first series goes down well ?

My enjoyment was only spoiled by the advert breaks and the overly long reintroduction of the program at the start of each part. There was only about 30 minutes of actual content in the hour. He would be an excellent host in Madrid though, some great old places to look out for if I'm there again.

Michaels' new series this Saturday, 20:30 on Channel 5, this time it's Portugal.

And handily, episode 1 is about Porto, which as it happens I've just booked a holiday there in a few weeks time.

i thought that too, wife set it to record but haven't tried to watch it yet. If it's a repeat, it's a good programme.
His latest series in Japan isn't getting me though, lad of airy fairy stuff and how to make an umbrella....
