Borderlands Movie trailer
Discussion
Interesting. It will fail to capture some, if not most, of the character of the games though. No mention of the planet name?
Casting seems okay, but I'm not sure if I can stand Kevin Hart screaming through it (as he seems to do a lot).
I like Jack Black, but it's a real shame they didn't use the original voice actor as Claptrap's voice is so iconic in the games (I'm just working through BL3 right now and was pleased he introduces you to the game).

Casting looks questionable, to say the least. Though they do seem to do a good job capturing the 'look' of the games with the set design.
Having never played the games I can only agree with this, it certainly looks right. As for the film the trailer did nothing to capture my interest. Lucas Ayde said:

Cate Blanchett does seem an odd choice but it's always been a fun game that doesn't take itself too seriously so I've got no problem with Kevin Hart or Jack Black playing big roles.Certainly looks the part so I'll probably go and see it, it's not like video game adaptations have always been terrible...
It hasn't gone down well
$115m budget. US domestic opening box office figures are... $8.8m, with $4m on day 1. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl3466691329...
Currently 9% critic score and 50% audience score on RT, 4.4/10 on IMDB.

I would have put this in the 'Films I watched this week' thread, but I haven't seen it and I don't plan to.

The fact you can see a crew member in the shot they used for promo material sums it all up

Saw it this afternoon, who along with everyone else in the screening, was there because it was 'free' (unlimited card) and the cinema had air-conditioning.
It was bad, really really bad.
Yes I know it was adapted from a game, but I didn't expect them to follow that trope as games do by opening with a long and rambling
cutscene to try to explain the childish nonsense that would follow and what the player should be aiming for.
The plot... hmmm, well it managed to be stupid, dull, repetitive, and predictable, and most of the scenes could have just been video captures from the 'shoot-em ups' in the game. Yes the stuffed bear gag was funny the first time, but the second, third, fourth, fifth, etc...
Plus it was bloody obvious what the "surprise" ending reveal would be from the start.
As for the cast - WTF was Cate Blanchett doing wasting her time with this nonsense? Kevin Hart was playing it straight - why? And amazingly Jack Black isn't the most irritating character in the film!
Then the straight rip-off scene from Episode IV - FFS!!! What on earth did they thinking they were doing?
One Asteroid out of Five (and that was only earned because the film wasn't too long).

Borderlands current global box office is $21m, I don't know how many bums on seats in cinemas that equates to. The film is going to streaming on August 30th, 3 weeks after the cinema release date. The Pitch Meeting video has 194k over 200k views in 3 hours.
