World’s Strongest Man!
Discussion
Channel 5, 7pm. No idea why I quite like this but I do, it’s been on for many many years now.
Edit I got a bit excited this seems to be the Britain’s strongest man which presumably feeds into the world’s strongest man. They begin after Christmas

Because you look at think how the hell can they do that.... I used to train in a gym where a bloke fancied trying for this, he would hold 70kg out at arms length and see if he could hold it. I was benching 90kg !!! It's my highlight of Christmas TV and have been watching since Geoff Capes. I should point out though that I started a thread on this topic about 5 years ago and got one or two replies from people that didn't seem to appreciate that there would be people that loved strongman but didn't already know who had actually won that years competition. I should add that nobody spoiled the result for me but I just thought I'd mention it here.

WSM is a whole other level.
I've been watching WSM since Bill Kazmair and Geoff Capes locked horns.
Then Iceland emerged on the scene with Jon Pall Sigmarsson, then Magnus ver Magnusson, then the most impressive; Jouko Ahola. Half the size of most other competitors, he was like Wolverine in his steely strength. I remember watching a qualifying event for WSM where he completed a deadlift, but with blood pouring from his nose.
Hard as fk, was Ahola.

Always enjoyed watching but I struggle to get into it so much in recent years since social media always leaks who the winner is due to it being recorded months prior to the festive period.
Yes - there will be a disconnect (including on this thread) between those like me for whom it's simply Christmas TV fun and those that are into the strongman sport in general. Add me to the list... As much a part of Christmas as the Nakatomi tower and some unplanned, no idea who the father was, pregnancy in the middle east.
Been watching since Geoff 'the budgie king' Capes.
Favourite was Mariusz Pudzianowski though. Looked nothing like the big lads, was fast as hell, yet still had the power.

Tom Stoltman not entirely convincing in tonight's heat in the final itself. Beat Bobby Thomson in the shoot-out though to get through. Thompson had looked really good in some events but very inconsistent. Kordiyaka from Ukraine won.
In last week's qualifying events a US competitor looked pretty impressive. Cant remember his name though and don't want to search on-line in case I inadvertently find out who won. He's a fella that I've seen in previous years I think. He's my tip.

It was Bobby Thompson in the first round who messed up putting the last weight on the table against Stoltman wasn't it? So Stoltman got ahead from Thompson's error and then the injury on the stones. In last week's qualifying events a US competitor looked pretty impressive.
