Sopranos for me. James is an absolute powerhouse, and the whole series defined a generation of genre, quality, and overarching story.
Absolutely. Plus the best ending ever IMO.

Never watched any of them. Started watching Breaking Bad, (like I’ve started watching many series) but generally don’t get past the first 4 or 5 before interest dwindles and I never watch them again

Ok, so you like these. But how can they be the greatest when two of them only have one season that's any good?

You can't ask for best ever and then only have four as the option. I have not watched any of your four , and now I won't on principle.smile

Because they are better than the ones you like smile

It’s OK to ask which is the best of four series, but best TV series ever?? Get real

Yes. Point conceded. Fair enough. It's all subjective. My missus would nominate Come Dine With Me.

I did try GOT once but couldn't get past the genre. It's worth persevering with then?

I have particular affection for Band of Brothers, as when I got my first HD TV set in the US (a huge Sony rear projector) there were only two HD channels. HBO and a channel showing ice hockey. Coming from an old-fashioned NTSC set (the world’s lowest TV standard) to HDTV, I was just blown away by BoB

From the list, The Wire

Actual best series ever: Edge of Darkness

It has some fabulous moments, but it worked best as a show to discuss with others when you hit those moments, and the writing went downhill when they overtook the books.

It’s still a very good show but if you’ve bounced off it then find something more to your liking.

Right, thanks. I think it's sometimes worth pushing through initial scepticism. Mad Men for example is on my list of fave four but it took me a decade of trying before it finally clicked. Whereas the other three I liked pretty much from the get go.

I haven’t seen The Wire. Of the three I have seen BB just pips Sopranos but I think Better Call Saul is better than them both.
