Nothing on the telly last night and after seeing a good review of this from a mate on Facebook, stuck it on.

Very pleasantly surprised how good and watchable it was.

Lots of good footage of him playing as a kid (and adult), pushy but effective father, lots of interviews with all the old Man Utd stars of old (and Ferguson), hero to villain after the '98 World Cup and his dealings with that utter hatred.

Two episodes from four in and enjoying it.

Lots of cringe in it too, but watchable cringe. hehe

I have no interest in football whatsoever, but I have always perceived Beckham to be a decent bloke and look forward to watching this series.

I don't think I ever disliked Beckham, but I can't stand celeb nonsense and he very quickly became more celeb than footballer in my eyes. I can also still vividly remember his sending off against Argentina and the huge disappointment of England going out.

He comes across as a thoroughly decent chap in this, deserving of his success but mostly very grounded despite an extraordinary life. Of course it's going to paint him in the best light possible but he doesn't give the impression he's a knob behind the scenes.

It's just a great documentary all round, and very nostalgic for those of us a similar age to Beckham.

Ditto. No interest in football but clearly a person with an interesting life story so thought I’d watch it, and enjoyed it.

Clearly it twisted to suit the narrative in places, but definitely worth a watch.

I've been enjoying it too. once our son is in bed we sometimes struggle to find something easy we both want to watch whilst shovelling some dinner down and this does the trick. I was 9 during France '98 and can remember the fall out from Beckham's red card but I didn't realise how bad it got. Fair play to Becks for coming through it like he did

I'm a football fan (West Ham) but have always liked Beckham so have started watching it, I did post in the Netflix thread as well. I am enjoying it so far and think he comes across well in it.

I also posted in the Netflix thread that if your into football and these kind of documentaries, Sergio Ramos (ex Madrid and PSG) has a good one on Amazon.

Really enjoyed this. I'm a football fan (but not of any of his clubs), but he comes across really well in this. He's had more than his fair share of sh!t over the years but obviously incredible rewards too, but is clearly a well-rounded but very driven man. Great TV.

P.S. it's the first time in about 30 years that I haven't wanted to throw rocks at the TV when Eric bloody Can't*na appeared too.

I am not a football fan, but the GF and i have watched this over the last week and i throughly enjoyed it.

It was good to see the real life behind the tabloids, for me it gave us a view of their marriage behind closed doors and what he is like as a person. Him being a clean freak surprised me.

Likewise, I was a little older at the time (14) and remember the incident (and crying after losing on pens) but I don't remember being that aware of how bad the treatment was afterwards. Absolutely horrendous, that would have broken a lot of people I am sure. I would have probably been inclined to bugger off abroad far sooner.

I've really enjoyed the series, just finished it last night. I think it took till the third episode (with the Perez interviews) to realise the interviewer was Hugo off of Succession, having recognised his voice throughout but not being able to place it. Impressed with the level of interviewees that were involved including OG Ronaldo et al. Even the wife was engrossed having struggled to read her book while I was watching, I noticed she hadn't turned a page for ages.

With all the celebrity that has followed him around throughout his career it's easy to forget that underneath it all he was a very good footballer.

We watched first two episodes last night, really great TV.

I admired Beckham for England, hated it when my team came up against Man Utd simply because they always beat us without any real difficulty. Watching some of that 90s footage was a real reminder of how good that treble winning team really was.

I was surprised that they got Fergie to be interviewed for it at considerable length, given their high profile fall-out at the time. I guess there is a lot of water under the bridge since.

I did chuckle at Becks going "Adidas paid me 50,000 pounds. I went straight out and spent 50,000 pounds on an M3"

The Glenn Hoddle comments from his family were very interesting. In hindsight he totally chucked Becks under the bus to cover his own arse when he should have protected his player, despite the red mist that had got to him against Argentina.

Likewise, said the same to my other half after watching it. Always just thought she was a standard celeb, but she actually seems to have a really down to earth and likeable personality.

I can't help feel a bit sorry for Rebecca Loos (although she wasn't named it's clear DB's affair with her was what was being discussed).

She wasn't married, he was. She broke no vows. He was effectively her boss. Yet she was vilified at the time. She's happily married now with two kids and living quietly in Norway, and now all this is back at centre stage and she no doubt has reporters following her etc. With D&VB saying how it was the worst time of their lives.

Hoddle may have thrown Beckham under the bus, but I can't help feeling they've thrown her under the bus.....again.

Beckham never answered the question about the affair, and just said "it's our private life". Seems a bit cowardly, to allow Netflix to make a 4+ hr documentary on your life, and then refusing to discuss it because "it's private". If you want to stay private, then don't allow a 4 hour documentary about your life.

But that aside, it was a very good watch.

Or for those of us who are older it's the actor that played the Indian character in Short Circuit, or The Plague in Hackers

We both enjoyed it too, and my missus isn't into football at all. I guess it helped that she seems to fancy the pants off David Beckham though!

The way he strikes a ball is a joy to watch I reckon.
