So much respect for Billy, can’t stand smarmy Alex and indifferent to Mel All Saints and Harry McFly

Taking mum will restrict the physical part somewhat so let’s see how they go.

Billy for the win.

A shame that after only 3 seasons they wheel out the Celebs.....

Not a fan of Billy on F1 but he came across very well.

Alex. What a knob. His Dad knew you bought tickets on the coach in Seville. He knew that because he worked there. Alex wasn't having any of it but he was told by a member of staff at the coach station that you bought tickets on the coach....... Then missed the 3:15 coach because he didn't realise he crossed a time zone.

Enjoyable first episode, looking forward to it being in Europe.
Should be plenty of scope for different transportation after the Canada one became very samey and predictable.

Can't really see the point in doing a celebrity version, it's all about the personalities of those doing the trip and in that respect it makes absolutely no difference whether they are celebs or 'civilians'. Case in point is that so far at least, their partners have been far more interesting characters than the celebs themselves.

Good route though and huge variety of countries, scenery and culture to be packed in, interesting to see how they get on with budgets when they hit Norway.

Yeah enjoying this, good to be able to identify with the places they're going to.
Really makes me want to travel more, the price of train travel always strikes me how cheap it seems, was it Barcelona > Marseilles for 150 Euros ? If I walk in my local ticket office they want 100 quid for a shabby slow service to London which is 75 mins away.

Being born into the snowflake generation, it is so good to see how Billy overcomes adversity and the genuine support he gets from his sister.

As for the other 3-couples it is good to see how grounded the parent generation seem compared to their kids. Of course, that could just be the editing.

Alex seems so one-dimensional.

To be fair, that shows on a map as 315 miles by road. I just checked Glasgow to Milton Keynes, it’s about 350 miles and a walk-up ticket is £107.10, so not that much different.
If you fancy the real Race Across the World budget experience, try here https://www.flixbus.co.uk/ - I can see Glasgow to Frankfurt for under £100!

Quite enjoying this, other than Alex as posters have said above.. what a diva! Felt sorry/embarrassed for his Dad. Fair play to Billy and to the Mum's too.

Yep, I’m loving this and think its such a good format. Whilst it’s a ‘celeb’ version actually I think it makes no real difference in the way it’s done.

As others have said, Billy is an absolute trooper, very impressive young man.

Almost inspiring me to go interrailing in my 40’s!

Seeing Billy on this show inspired me to watch "Driven: The Billy monger Story" what a lovely lovely boy, a real credit to his whole family.

If you haven't seen the documentary it's well worth a look.

After the first episode i put Billy and his sister down as the winners. Billy is obviously not one to give up when faced with adversity, but his sister also seems able to cope with anything that is thrown at her - from treading goatskins in pigeon poo to carrying both rucksacks. She seems able to take stuff in her stride, which bodes well for the fair of them.

As to Alex not being able to eat octopus without gagging... he is going to struggle with food in a lot of places. He must thank his lucky stars he isn't travelling across the Far East!

Going back to Billy, there is one scene "Driven: The Billy monger Story" where Billy, his Mother & Sister are travelling to the FIA Headquarters in Paris and they appear to be rushing along the platform in Waterloo trying to catch the train, and there's Billy not only pushing himself along in a wheelchair but also pushing his case along the platform in front of him. Says a lot about the man to me.

Was trying to be polite, something Alex seems not have mastered.

If ever there was proof that the work tasks were mainly token efforts designed to take time away from the time as opposed to actually do anything meaningful it was last night and Harry chisseling a piece of marble to make dents in it hehe
I'm also guessing that they are given transport to a lot of these work tasks, so if there is a job in Milan (for example) then it's their job to get to Milan but from there they'll be given a lift (in the crews mini bus) to the work location and then a lift back after, you don't ever see them struggling to reach some random out of the way work location (which Mel and her Mum seemed to be at last night).
One other thing struck me last night and that was you don't ever see them buying much food, I'm assuming the food has to come out of their budget but the programme doesn't seem to make much of a deal out of so and so have stocked up in here with cheap provisions for the journey.
