Discussion
I could've sworn there was a thread about this but couldn't find one.
Now out on Apple TV.
Pretty good so far. From what I remember of the book, they did a better job organising the start of the tale with this iteration.
Didn't think I was going to buy Rebecca Ferguson as a grease monkey but she sold it to me.

I think it was discussed in the general Apple TV thread.
One episode in and I don’t know how anyone who hasn’t read the books would have any idea what’s going on. I’m enjoying it but my wife is completely lost, I’m having to give her spoilers so she knows why people are acting the way they are. Maybe she would’ve got why things happened after seeing the very end of episode one but she’s not that patient!

I've watched the first 2 episodes and am thoroughly enjoying it.
The premise of 'People trapped in a bubble not knowing what's outside' has been done before but it's still quite intriguing in this case. Good to see some actual quality special effects and generally high production values.
I gonna guess here that the people going outside are being poisoned on their way out, probably by the air in their suit, and not by the atmosphere outside the silo.
Please don't confirm that though as it would be a major spoiler.

Same here, loved the books, struggling to remember how they started to get the twist set up. Also trying to fill the gaps in with the Mrs, without spoiling it. I haven't read the books and have only so far watched ep1 and think it's pretty straight forward. Ecological disaster in the past led to people seeking shelter in silos. At some point society rebelled and destroyed the historical records and now people don't know why they're in the silo, or for how much longer.
Although there's clearly some people who do on the justice / judicial dept. But they're not telling and they don't want you finding out yourself. And they're obviously trying to control the population - either numbers or the personality types, or both.
Why do people bother to clean the camera lenses seems to be the point of ep1. I hope we find out in ep2. I'll watch tomorrow.
Question I'd want to know before I invest too much in this series is whether the books actually ever answer why they're in the silos and let you in on the state of the world, and what led to the present time. I don't want anyone to actually tell me the answer but I'd like to know there is a satisfactory explanation. I got burned by Lost and more recently Westworld, and now I feel jaded about these long-playing series.

Yes. There's a second series commissioned already but three books. Maybe they'll condense or hope for a third.
Hopefully Apple won't go all HBO and erase things while they're still going.

There are 3 books - Wool, Shift and Dust. Wool is what we’re watching now, Shift is a prequel that is set in the time the silo is built so explains it all, then Dust is set after Wool. From what I’ve read season 1 is Wool so if there’s a second season then I’m going to guess it’s going to be Dust so they can keep the sets, etc.
The thing I can’t answer is how much the silo inhabitants figure out, just can’t remember!
A bit slow but generally impressed so far. I'm certainly interested enough to keep watching. Hopefully we'll see more of the society inside the silo and the backstory of how/why it came to be built will unfold at a good pace.
Apple TV are putting out some high quality stuff compared to the likes of Netflix (awful, bar a couple of headline shows) or even Amazon (generally decent but then they come out with expensive stinkers like LoTR).
They're kind of like the HBO of streaming, it seems. Foundation excepted ... that had so much potential and they pretty much wrecked it despite high production values.

Too obvious - someone is getting the 'Wool' pulled over their eyes ....Mars said:

It's an already written trilogy of novels with pretty good reviews so not like Lost where the writers more or less just made it up as they went along and then really disappointed a lot of people at the very end when they desperately tried to make a finale that tied it all up.Why do people bother to clean the camera lenses seems to be the point of ep1. I hope we find out in ep2. I'll watch tomorrow.
