Harry Potter HBO Max
Discussion
I couldn’t find an existing thread, but thought this worthy of a discussion.

I first heard if this a few weeks ago and thought it was an April fools joke. Apparently not.
Supposedly a much more accurate adaptation (I didn’t think the original movies strayed too far from the source material to be honest)
Bizarrely it looks like the theme music and production design (well Hogwarts at least) is going to be carried over…..
Bonkers..

Well I'm keen for it.
Obviously they had to dilute the books down to fit each one into a typical film duration but you can do as many episodes as needed to get all the little details into a TV series.
One thing that'll be interesting is where they film it and how they cast it. If it is to remain completely faithful to the books it'll need a largely UK cast and so you'd think they'll shoot it in the UK somewhere.

Not sure how I feel about this….
I seem to remember the latter books had much more detail in than the films portrayed but nothing which impacted the story telling.
Feels like a story which didn’t need retelling but there we go. Wonder if there will be any cameos from the original cast.

It should be fine, its like jrrrr tolkein being around to supervise his vision of the books on film.
I bet jrrrr Rowley didn't sign on until they gave here control about no new 'special' characters to appeal to whatever people think they are in 2023.
But the films were well made so it can only look a bit crap like the reportedly really expensive lord of the dance tv series which appeared a bit cheap really.

If I were five I might offer an opinion.
FTFY In a couple of years your English might get to that standard..
Also I have never really understood the logic of posting on a thread you have no interest in.
Well that went downhill pretty fast
In the interests of getting the thread back on track, I'm on the fence with this one. Not read the books (at some point I will), but have watched the films multiple times and IMO it's one of the best film series ever made. HBO will have a big challenge trying to live up to this and there's going to be so many comparisons to the films (which might be tough on the younger actors). But I'm interested to see what they can do. Glad JK Rowling hasn't been cancelled and will be heavily involved, despite how the lunatics like to portray her I'm sure there will be plenty of diversity in this (which isn't a bad thing).

I'm not on the fence, I'm all up for it and so long as they get the budget for it this could be incredible. Obviously comparisons will be made to the films but I also think it'll be able to stand on its own due to the depth and detail they'll be free to go into. You can't just stick an extra hour of scenes on to a film but in a series it's just an extra episode. In the interests of getting the thread back on track, I'm on the fence with this one. I'm on the fence too, or should that be also? I don't care, I ain't casting spells here.
The first film was released 22 years ago, they've rebooted other franchises multiple times in the same time frame, stfire they've done it so much they over-lap!
There seems to be a big push to turn Movies, or should that be films, or filum, who knows into TV series, or programs, or is it programmes…
Alien is getting a go, Field of Dreams, Ted, Blade Runner
The whole thing will be marred because JK Rowling thinks only women are women and the original cast of 3 ingrates have turned on her because it doesn't suit the current social narrative.

It's been a while since I read the books (and I think I quickly read them before passing them to my niece) but as I recall they are different in tone to the films.
For example - if you wondered how Hermiony fell for Ron Weasley when, in the films he is played as a bit of a clown, it's because in the books he's a much braver, cleverer and resourceful character.
There probably is scope to turn the series into a long running TV show.
