First episode last night. I thought it was good.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001jfsg
A murderer who had been given life, released and then committed another voilent crime, returned to prison, now up for parole a second time.
A fraudster conning women - he was nothing to look at! - serving 4 years, IIRC had been released and done the same thing while out, had been returned to prison, was now up for parole a second time.
My wife and I both guessed right what the outcomes would be.
A good watch.

A fraudster is ‘up for parole’?
That doesn’t make any sense.
The fraudster would automatically get released on licence halfway through his sentence without any oversight by the parole board anyway.
Well, I didn't really understand it either. Perhaps because he had been released and re-offended? I dunno. I have managed to stay out of prison - except whilst visiting. That doesn’t make any sense.

Not sure such a high risk offender deserves to benefit from a parole hearing at all, not seen it but I would wager these parole boards are top heavy with libertarians, retired school teachers and social workers.

It was interesting for sure.
The con man was certainly intrepid - flew to Turkey then overland through to Belarus where he met a couple of guys that took him ‘unofficially’ into Russia. He’s lucky he didn’t end up in a gulag.
Yep, not a trip I would have done! The con man was certainly intrepid - flew to Turkey then overland through to Belarus where he met a couple of guys that took him ‘unofficially’ into Russia. He’s lucky he didn’t end up in a gulag.
Apparently got conned himself once he got there, my heart bleeds for the poor guy
I especially liked the way he tried to use this as a reason he should get parole, as he could now empathise with his victims after being conned himself!
That guy that battered someone to death and took a hostage in prison and nearly killed them is the type of person that in my world would be put down.
How the hell does a man seemingly bragging about himself get let out?
And why do we put so much onto if they convert to a religion? In his case a budist.
Unreal.
