I am surprised that nobody has started a thread on “Funny Woman” on Sky. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it is an absolute joy. Mrs Wombat and I ended up watching all six episodes last night. The way it evokes the 1960s is great, as is the music and of course the writing and acting. Highly recommended, particularly for those of a “certain age” (like us!)

Watched the first episode last night and thought like you that it was very good. Gemma Arterton is excellent in the lead role.

Binge watched all six episodes on Thursday evening. Thought it was very good. Better than some offerings of late. Genuine laugh during the first part of Ep2. Thought there were some era errors but I put this down to younger script writers. Thought I recognised Gemma, she was the hot girl in Quantum of Solace that ended up oiled.

Didn't enjoy the book a great deal, so haven't rushed to watch the programme.

She's gorgeous.
Little known fact - she was born with six fingers, a condition known as polydactyly.

Finally watched the last episode yesterday and have really enjoyed the series. I wonder if they will be doing a second series? I hope they do.

I thought the fashions and lifestyle were spot-on. Lots of references to events of the time. I really don't think Spike Milligan would have agreed to appear on the show, however. Not his tasse de the whatsoever.

I think that was a nod to Curry And Chips.

It's pretty good isn't it.I'd imagine we're all rooting for Sophie, you can't say that about all lead characters.
Series 2 is on now.
I think the soundtrack takes it to another level

Wee Gemma Arterton story for you. When I went to get my daughter’s birth certificate registered in 2009 at Chelsea reg offices, I parked in a small car park off the Kings Road. As I was pulling into the parking space, Gemma walked in front of my car. She was so beautiful I was temporarily frozen and damn near ran her over.

I used to see lots of lovely women in London but Gemma was at an utterly different level. The only one I’ve ever seen who came close was when Julia Roberts smiled at me when she was filming in Dublin (?1993). It was like a million lumen light being switched before my eyes, gorgeous.

Sorry, thread derailment.

I rather enjoyed this series but I did find Roisin Conaty's character rather annoying in this. The music score was again very good and great acting from Gemma Arterton.
