Eddie Murphy reprising the role of Axel Foley!

Not just a rumour, as it is currently filming in California, set for release next year, with some of the original cast, including Billy, Taggart, Serge, Jeffrey, and some new characters by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Kevin Bacon.

This has caught me by surprise, as the rumours of a sequel have been around many times since the mid 90s, especially since the third one wasn't great, but have never amounted to anything.
I didn't think Coming 2 America was amazing, but I really hope this is.

I think much of the humour would be verboten in today's Hollywood.

Probably better to re-watch the original.

High hopes for this, but prepared for the likely disappointment. The originals still stand up so well, they are brilliant. Such a shame Inspector Todd will be absent. "DON'T THINK AXEL! IT MAKES MY DICK ITCH!!!!!!"

Not to be a Debbie-downer. But absolutely no chance.

Nothing makes it through the remake / reboot / callback mill and comes out with any dignity.

You can quote me on this in time and we'll see how well the conmment ages hehe
TG Maverick comes close.

Bumping this because I watched the original on Netflix the other day.
It's fascinating reading IMDB Trivia that a lot of the scenes were ad-libbed. The film was a real credit to Murphy's abilities.
And to think Sly was originally cast as Foley!

It's a great film and I hope 4 does the franchise justice.

Did you know Sylvester Stallone was originally wanted as Axel Foley? How different it would have been.

Yes! The first one has one of the best opening scenes ever!

Altogether now...."I don't want to take it anymore...I'll just stay here locked behind the door"

First film I took my new girlfriend to see at the Enfield Odeon back in Spring 1985 in my (new) 1973 MGBGT.

cloud9 A lifetime ago.

Not sure I fancy this though.

If this isn’t a steaming turd I would be surprised.

48 Hours, the first Beverly Hills Cop and Trading Places were great (at least in period) but I’ve not seen a decent film with EM in it since (maybe Coming to America). I’m not including Shrek as was just voice and he wasn’t the star.

Whats wrong with BHC2? (We’ll pretend BHC3 didn’t happen)

It IMO lacks the "charm" of the original. Comedy reduced; violence and swearing increased.

Taggart and Rosewood? Surely now overdue for their generous police pensions. Mind you, they were great in the early movies.

Another 48 Hours is OK and Bowfinger was good. Nothing decent in the last 20 years though.

Someone stole my brand new Chevrolet

hehe

Can't wait for 4 - I have seen BHC1 and 2 possibly more than any other film.

I first became aware of BHC when I was about 10 watching BHC3 on TV at my grandparents one Saturday night. Got my mum and dad to buy me the box set when I was about 14 and loved them all. Hopefully this isn't a huge flop.

+1 100% agree. Coming to America (original) was also superb

The nutty professor( fking awful st) was where the rot set in.

Let’s hope it’s good, but I am skeptical.

Not convinced by that trailer. It looks like it's trying too hard and I fear it's gone the Bad Boys 3 route, turn up the action and forget the comedy.

Love BHC 1 and 2, and to be honest don't hate 3.

First one though is a masterpiece.
