Decided to rewatch this from the very start - I can just recall watching it 30 odd years ago.

Certainly the first 4 series were incredibly creative inspired writing, less so after the writers split but still good.

Anyone else join me ?

Didn't know it was on, but now I do I'll be all over it like a bad suit. Series 2-4 were the absolute heyday, but most of it is, indeed, very funny.

I would say series 5 and 6 were very good as well, "Gunmen of the apocalypse" and "Back to Reality" being two of my all time favourite episodes. The first few series however are the most nostalgic for me as I had them on VHS and spent hours watching them in my bedroom over and over again.

After that it got a bit rubbish, I vaguely remember watching series 7 and 8 but the ones on Sky were appalling.

Did I dream it, or did they do an episode in Coronation Street?

I recently learmed that Craig was/is in Corrie. Are the two things related?

Did you get high and just watch an episode of Corrie by mistake, wondering if it was one of the ones after Rimmer left?

That was the Back To Earth special. And, yes, they blurred the lines between Craig Charles' 2 shows.

Don't know if this show is of its time but I remember loving it back in the day, and the mention of Red Dwarf reminds me of a good era in my life, however whenever I have watched them more recently I haven't enjoyed them as much as I once did.

Watched them as a kid in the 90's and early 00's and love it, didn't know they were all on Prime so I'll def be giving them a re-watch.

Whenever I've caught the odd episode on Dave recently I've always felt it stood up well by modern standards, possibly because it was fairly out there on it's own doing it's own thing but more likely just rose tints.

Still makes me laugh smile

Holly : Hope they've got some odds and sods on board, we're short of a few supplies.
Lister : [drinking tea] Like what?
Holly : Cow's milk, ran out of that yonks ago. Fresh and dehydrated.
Lister : What kind of milk are we using now?
Holly : Emergency backup supply. We're on the dog's milk.
Lister : Dog's milk!
Holly : Nothing wrong with dog's milk. Full of goodness, full of vitamins, full of marrowbone jelly. Lasts longer than any other milk, dog's milk.
Lister : Why?
Holly : No bugger'll drink it. Plus of course the advantage of dog's milk is that when it goes off, it tastes exactly the same as when it's fresh.

Also watching it. although seen most of them many many times. Its brilliant....

Well, when I say brilliant. Seasons 1 thru 6 are, with probably Season 1 & 2 being the best (most charming).

Season 7 is complete and utter diarrhoea. Not sure how they dared to air it really. The only redeeming feature is Chloe Annett. Season 8 was terrible, although mildly better than 8. Series 9 and beyond make 7 look like a masterpiece however. frown

I loved the books when I was growing up. Must dig them out again for a good read and let my son read them.

Bits of 7 and 8 were OK but not a patch on the first 6 series. I went to the filming of the season 8 double episode with the dinosaur roaming the ship and it was great to watch the filming live. My then girlfriend reckoned she could hear my laugh when it aired.

The later cash-ins were dire though.

They used to film some bits of the earlier series at my work, anywhere you see the running about the bowels of a ship with steel walkways and flashing lights was probably filmed in the cells at Pyestock.

Didn't one of the creators (Rob Grant or Doug Naylor) leave after series 6? After which it went downhill.

Many moons ago I went to see a double act show at my local theatre with Chris Barrie and Norman Lovett. Whilst I was a fan of Red Dwarf the show was pretty poor. It was a shame as I loved Norm as Holly and loved Chris as Rimmer.

One of my all time favourite comedies, up to season 5. I think when Kryton Mk 2 joined it was even better….. agree season 7 was ste, I didn’t mind the prison ship season to much to be honest.

We still refer to some of the lines all these years on!

Supplies are plentiful. We have enough food and drink to last 30,000 years, although we have run out of Shake 'n' Vac.
