Squid Game: Netflix (Poss spoilers inside)
Discussion
Probably being discussed in the Netflix thread but I think it deserves it's own thread.
Just got to the end and really enjoyed it. Thought the premise was very good (ala Battle Royale if you remember that) but executed with a human side and a bit of weight to the story.
Any other watchers?

Yes, I thought it was excellent. I made the mistake of watching the first episode dubbed (which was very mixed), but if you can cope with subtitles I think that's by far the best way to watch it.
I thought the cop side-plot was nonsense and didn't add a lot. I wasn't a bit fan of the twist in the final episode either. That aside everything else worked well for me. Episode 6 was particularly grim, although I wish they'd dwelt more on the married couple.
Overall a recommend.

It's Netflix' most successful show ever, apparently.
Interesting that. I thought The Queens Gambit had the title but it’s not too surprising. Squid Game has that watchability that makes you go ‘ok, just 10 more minutes’ when you’re about to turn it off What amused us was the voiceover in ep1 explaining the rules to Squid Game they played as kids.
My wife "It sounds like Calvinball."
I struggled to finish episode 2, and then abandoned it. I wanted to see what the fuss was about.
Did it get any better after episode 2, should I try another few?
My problem was I found it very slow, and 2 episodes in I didn't care one iota about any of the main characters.
(I did get a lot of the societal and cultural cues touched on, and the locations were familiar as I lived in Seoul for a few years so know Seoul/Ansan/Incheon etc but it just seemed slow with shallow characters not worth investing in).

Just finished it and thought it was absolutely brilliant. Quite hard to watch in many places, one of those things where you say 'oh no, I bet they have to do this...' etc. And they do. Especially hard was the game when they were in pairs where the two closest friends joined forces...nasty.
Watching it in Korean with subtitles gives the full effect. I always watch foreign stuff on Netflix in native language, and got used to the subtitles.
I have an interesting observation about room decoration...
Those "mannequins" in the observation room during the final few games, I think they are actually women posing in very tight full body leotards, possibly with nothing underneath the leotards :P
Took me a while to notice this, but one of them moved slightly.
