I had a random thought...
Why don't commercial radio stations offer an ad free premium service? So during the annoying ad breaks, you get a song instead.

It would only work for streaming services of course. But I tend to listen to Greatest Hits radio on the Alexa, and would probably pay a small premium for ad free. And yes, I could just play music via Spotify, but I actually like the DJ bits & chat (specially Simon Mayo and Mark Goodier).

They do.

Jazz FM recently started it. You can also choose your genre and skip 6 songs per hour. I don't subscribe.

America has Sirius XM which is subscription based and offers every musical genre known to man either with or without DJs. Why it has never launched in the UK is beyond me. No commercials whatsoever.

If that did that on RadioX there would be almost nothing left to listen to.

Well there would be the non-stop Oasis.

Was about to post the same.

PR do the standard DAB/Internet radio
There's a stage up where you get another track instead of the ads but sometimes it's only half a track, this happens on my phone.
Then there's the new Premium option for IIRC £3.99/month with no ads and you can skip tracks and there's various themed stations included.

We normally listen to Absolute radio in work and I listen to it in the car. I thought I'd try a few new stations, and every time I tuned into Radio X it seemed to be on a marathon of adverts, so gave up with it.

For ad free radio I listen to Radio Paradise, well, it's everything free, so you need the app to find out what's playing. It's certainly broadened my already wide musical horizons.
