Films I watched this week (NO SPOILERS) (Vol 3)
Discussion
Watched Eddie the Eagle with the kids, nice feel-good film. I doubt it is even slightly realistic but we all enjoyed it. 61M off a 70M slope.
Captain Marvel - Probably the weakest Marvel film ever. The heroin is utterly bland and vanilla and not a very interesting character who goes from underpowered to overpowered in a blink of an eye. The twists were pretty obvious for anyone with even a passing interest in Marvel and the action a bit lacklustre. The head Alien was the best thing in it 5/10.

Sadly that seems to be the direction Marvel are heading these days. Everything has to be political which is a shame considering the many solid or good movies they produced up until Endgame. JagLover said:

Really? We finally get one Marvel film where the lead character is female and who doesn't have "woman" or "girl" in her Superhero name, and one Marvel film where the lead character isn't white, compared to umpteen films where the lead is a white male, and now you think "everything has to be political"? That's two films out of how many? I've lost count. It's not a very high percentage either way.
My personal feeling is "about bloody time".

Well they could have done a movie for Black Widow earlier or do one for Scarlet Witch (who seems to have more going for her than a smug smirk). That's two films out of how many? I've lost count. It's not a very high percentage either way.

In any case I was not referring so much to past movies but future direction. Captain Marvel shows the future direction, just put in before Endgame, and shoehorned into that movie, to try and carry over the fans.
I like interesting female characters and agree that Marvel should have been more balanced in the past. Just doubt that is the direction Marvel are going down now.

Ah, with you now. Yes, I agree that a Black Widow movie is way, way overdue, and that's kind of what I was getting at really but I can see now that my comments shouldn't really have been directed at you. And, yes, Captain Marvel was a little shoehorned in and I know many people felt they "had to" see it before they went to see Endgame rather than because they wanted to.

Saving Mr. Banks.
The story of the turbulent journey to obtain the rights of 'Mary Poppins' from the author PL Travers. Tom Hanks plays Walt Disney and Emma Thompson is the reluctant author.
The film is two stories, the other being flashbacks to PL Travers childhood. A solid, well made fun movie with a veneer of heartache. Good performances from all and Hanks is great as Walt Disney. Recommended.

Watched 2 sci-fi movies over the weekend, Invasion and it's follow up, Attraction.
Great moves despite subtitles and surprisingly, out of Russia.

I seem to remember Cat Woman and Halle Berry was on my playlist for quite some time. My favourite actress in Hollywood for quite some time...
Not for its artistic merits I would imagine........Sadly I don't really know my comic books that well. Used to read a lot of Hulk and a few Spidermans but don't remember seeing many good female characters in those.
I liked the Wasp (in the comic books) and they've already brought her into the MCU. Though I don't know if they have brought her in as the character I remember.
I have just looked at a list of top female superheroes in Marvel comics and, with the MCU to date and the X men, they already seemed to have used virtually all of the good ones
