Last night UK time was the event.
US and a few other countries first. No date for the UK unfortunately but hope it is next year.
Looks like they are giving Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Ware and National Geographic.

Ewan McGregor back as Obi Wan in an original series. Few other Sats Wars such as The Mandelorian.

Too much to list and some new characters.

Edit. That better more info.
$6.99 a month for 4 streams in 4k. Don't know what that will make it across here as in ££

I currently have only Amazon, and that's as a side benefit to the parcel thing...people have said get netfix for this or that....THere are some programmes I fancy...so I might get a limited subscription.
The disney thing however....I fancy their new MCU shows, especially now I know they're gonna be weekly. So that's a big draw for me, and it is something I could see myself stumping up for as a first purchaser.

I think Netflix is best binged now for me. I have had a sub for that last three years or so but last 12 months, hardly touched it and it is now cancelled. Lot I don't like about it. They don't really hold my attention anymore and their system of cataloguing and previews drives me nuts and new content is mostly miss for me.

Disney are wading in feet first. Their (Disney) catalogue will be available from day 1 and that means quite a lot and certainly more interest to me and a killer price. New series as well especially the Star Wars ones. I am expecting 4k as well where available hopefully down the Apple TV (their 4k rates are good). All the disney stuff on Apple iTunes is HD, for a reason though some titles are now on Google in 4k but at prices a shade under a disk. No point.

Not sure why the hold up with a lot of Europe, some say Sky deal but I cannot see that an organisation like Disney, that have a reputation, let themselves out of a streaming option knowing they are going to do a streaming option. These are normally long planned.

Interesting where company finances vs prospects are, Netflix vs Disney vs Apple. Apple kicks off later this year.

I’d imagine they’re trying to untangle all the various deals they have across various European channels for different films.

In the UK Star Wars was all on ITV but hasn’t been recently so guess that’s run out. The MCU seems to be spread across BBC (Avengers) ITV (Captain America x 3) and Channel 4 (Thor) but Netflix seem to have the rest.

I’d imagine they want all their properties to be Disney+ exclusive.

They must have had some deals in the US and other parts of the world, the US I imagine are more litigious.

Maybe it is the reason.

I'm fairly sure the star was 1-6 films have been on recently on itv. Last month or so.

I watch (coach trip...don't judge me too harshly) and I noticed the sky box doesn't get all the eps on series link, and if you miss one, it's on once on sky network/dload thingy...so I thought I'd missed a few, checked the stty 40d thing, and they're all on there. I guess deals can be quite complex on how these apps all interconnect.

They have been planning the removal of their content from the competition for sometime.

They let Netflix know around 2 years ago for example, hence why Netflix is investing so much in getting their own content.

These companies would normally roll out such a service in pieces, so they can iron out any issues, but also focus on the marketing blitz in each locale.

Regardless of whether this is a good service or not (and I think it will be) the end result is going to be more people pirating content. Either from the Disney service or what ever service they give up on to pay for Disney instead.

Netflix must be nervous.

I thought it was due to E.U. rules that providers like Netflix and amazon etc have to have a certain % of locally produced TV and Disney doesn’t have enough at the moment.

All the good stuff on Disney (like the Star Wars series) will likely get pirated in Europe before it even gets here.

I suspect what may happen between the big streamers is that people will binge watch on a pay as you go basis and then Netflix or Disney might introduce minimum subscription periods.

For me, the strength of Disney is not in the Disney/Pixar/Marvel/Star Wars movies but in the 20th Century Fox - which must have lots of classic films.

NMP. I remember back in the day when BSB and Sky first appeared (and before) people always knew someone who could sort out decoders cards. There will always be this. The Premiere League are investing a lot in anti piracy. Whatever they put in place will be circumvented, bettered, circumvented and so on.

Personally I have no problem paying and don't see this as an excuse to pilfer.

There is quite a lot and that also means Simpsons and did they do Futurama?

It is time though for one firm with the wherewithal and get a dip in streaming plan or whatever.

THere's going to be a Disney/Hulu bundle right, so all the edge fox stuf will go on hulu?

Not sure on the rules, but a lot of Marvel/SW stuff gets filmed in the UK/EU. I was at a place a few months ago where they were filming the current MCU film.

Forgive my non-techy numpty knowledge, but what does the bit in bold mean? 4 devices? 4 shows/episodes of shows?

Also, will this be a smart TV app type of thing?

I am reading it as four separate simultaneous 4k maximum streams, that would need four devices watching whatever the device owners want. At a guess, if you have 10 devices you will only be able to show on 4. Though 4X4k streams will tax most broadband in the UK. Apple streams 4k around 25 or so mb/s and at a guess realistically one large screen app and a few tablets taking a small sized feed.

But the UK T+C are not known, probably be similar to the US.

I am also guessing no box, just the app. For me that will mean Apple TV, others Android TV OS etc. There was some concern that they (apple and disney) would not play nice. However, App really is the better way to go rather than dedicated boxes though that can have issues.
