Anyone else watching this?

It’s excellent - I’m not usually a fan of Ricky Gervais but I find it highly enjoyable and brilliantly written.

Yes. ‘watched all episodes in one go.
I thought that it was excellent, but I’m mindful that how one sees it could be down to life experiences, or age-related.

I did not like some of the things that RG’s character did (especially that one scene that involved him giving money to someone) and found him hard to empathise with. I would not watch it again.

Yes loved it

Read a review that said it was RIcky's own spunkfest of celebrities telling him how amazing and kind he is...

Thought about it

Yes a bit of a spunkfest

Enjoyed it however

Loved it, watched it all in 2 sittings. I found it very life affirming, in an odd way. Very clever.

It is mentioned in the "Netflix" thread. I do not like Ricky Gervais very much but found After Life a great watch -- a mixture of extremely sad and bitterly, sarcastically funny. Thoroughly recommended.

My only complaint was the episode 6 ended a little too 'nice' for me.

I honestly through it was fantastic, superbly written and watching RG’s character making some real development was great.

The scenes with Julian were there to (I think) highlight that no matter how low you are, there is always someone lower, and giving him the money to actually kill himself, whilst brutal, was Tony actukkally helping someone when he’s stated many times that he doesn’t care about anyone and will always do what he wants.

Brilliantly done all round IMO.

As said above,I don’t like Ricky Gervais much at at all-but it was brilliant-loved it.
My father is unfortunately suffering from dementia,and the scenes with his dad really struck a chord with me-it was very well done,not distasteful at all in my opinion.i have some real laugh out loud moments with my dad,even if he cant always see the humor in them now ,he bloody well would have before he got as ill as he now.
It also brought a tear to my eye aswell....

I thought it was very good, great mix of laugh out loud and real emotion.

As an aside I recognised Hemel Hempstead old town in many of the High St scenes.

good acting, but too RG TM. he should have shared writing and directorship responsibilities, it is just too much a RG overload fest, his egotism really reeks with such hard story lines with very weak substance, i didn't feel the emotions he wanted as you could see the story coming a mile away, 6/10 forgettable gauche.

I felt the last episode, and maybe the one before as well, we're a bit weak really. Didn't enjoy the weird nicey - nicey fairytale ending that everyone got.

It just didn't fit well with the rest of the series which I really enjoyed. I liked the sadness of it, the fairly honest look at grief and depression etc and the thoughtfulness. Didn't like the end much.

Derek is also worth a watch, Karl Pilkington & David Earl make the show! Kev always cracks me up

I think there are quite a few who like him TBH.
I thought the whole series was very well done.

David Earl's speech at the wedding was one of the funniest things I've ever witnessed on TV. The worst wedding since May 1945 !

(Sorry for the spoiler but honestly it's worth watching again).

Have to agree with the others on here, could have been great if he would just cast a proper actor for the lead role, just like derek. the gags are OK and the supporting actors always superb, its just too gervais

After watching 'Upstart Crow' it is very hard for me to take anything RG does seriously. It is a perfect send-up.
