Star Wars - The Mandalorian
Discussion
Looks potentially interesting. Live action TV series.
Pedro Pascal as the lead (hope he remembers his helmet this time).
Carl Weathers, Werner Herzog(acting!), Nick Nolte and Giancarlo Esposito (Gus Fring from Breaking Bad) and others.
Some decent directors as well.
And with a Cassian Andor series coming looks like Disney are trying to make a decent fist of Star Wars after the massive balls up of TLJ.
Only problem is it's only going on the Disney+ streaming service. Can't see a Disney only service rivaling the variety of Sky/Netflix/Amazon so probably one for dedicated Disney heads only. I suspect it will be strongly available via alternative sources if Disney don't let others license it. As far as I can tell it looks US only initially with no stated plans for the rest of the world.
No pricing available either although lower than Netflix is expected.

I got given a Disney+ 3 month sub with, something, I forget what. The App on Apple TV was fairly terrible (at the time) and well, it's a backlog of old Disney films, but not all of them - a bit like Netflix really, you could find a lot of the straight to DVD sequels, but not all of the really big Cinema releases.
I won't buy it, I got fed up of paying Sky £90 a month at it's peak and sacked them off, only to slowly creep up close to that figure again with NowTV, Netflix, Prime and Virgin for the fibre and terrestrial channels.
EDIT, My mistake, I had Disney Life, which was the forerunner to Disney+, but looks the same content wise, Star Wars was on Disney LIfe< i'm sure it'll be on RARBG soon enough.

I just read that Disney makes something like $300m p.a. licensing stuff to other providers. They are stopping that when D+ launches, seems crazy.
But yeah, it's going to be the new GoT!
Netflix has an annual revenue of $12bn and makes $600m a year and they pretty much didn't exist 10 years ago (not under their current model anyway). But yeah, it's going to be the new GoT!
I think Disney are seeing the way the wind is blowing, Cinema might go through peaks, but Digital rentals are on their arse, too many consumers can stream illegally or torrent films, sometimes weeks before a film is officially available on iTunes or DVD, whereas streaming services are growing massively because of their all you can eat pricing.
Still, I won't buy it because I don't really like Disney stuff.
The netflix model is very good. It's cheap enough and there is enough choice for everyone.
Disney are self limiting, only disney, no adult stuff.
You'd have to be a major fan to sub to a disney only service unless its very cheap. To cut off other services to effectively force people over to your service, I can't see it working out.
I have NowTV (on and off as needed), Netflix, Amazon plus FTA and all the catch up services. I'm crippled by choice as it is, D+ would need to be pretty compelling for me to drop one of the others.

Sneak peek, looks interesting. Although, apologies in advance for all the audible nerdgasm outbursts.

Like the look of that. When is Series 1 dropping?

It will be interesting to see how this all playsDisney are self limiting, only disney, no adult stuff.

out but should keep in mind that Disney plus will eventually contain all Fox movies content, Fox TV, FX tv and national geo.
It will be creating a huge death star of a streaming service albeit limited in its initial
offering.
By offering the first 22 series of the simpsons from launch Disney plus will ring bells with a certain UK satellite service.

Stormtrooper: We have you 4 to 1https://youtu.be/l0dhPm3vbyE
Mandalorian: I like those odds!
Hmm, looks like it can go either way to me.
IG-88 (if it's him) looks cool.
The baddie from Jack Reacher has an excellent voice.
hmm, so carbon freezing referenced in the first trailer...this is post TESB then, and freezing people is a thing?
Will the titular character be mute? Will they give him that bland kiwi accent? To little info to know if this will be a dud or shot out of the park. The suits behind Disney Star Wars are very hit and miss.
