Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing
Discussion
Plural of barbel is 'barbel ' (just for info) . That seems to apply to every fish I can think of except shark(s), ray(s) dab (s) and eel (s) .We don't say carps or basses , trouts or chubs ,tenches or zanders . Odd.
Anyway .. semantics aside , barbel are lovely fish which , when hooked , try to pull your arm off ; they are incredibly strong creatures adapted to live in fast , powerful rivers like the Wye .
It is indeed a delightful series, as it is both genuinely funny but also lyrical and moving .
The body language of the two is worth watching - Bob is no angler , and hasn't much of a clue. But Paul is known in our world as a very capable angler - so he never takes his eyes off the float or rod tip for long , and whilst Bob will still gurn about when a fish is hooked Paul is like any proper angler - entirely focussed in the moment

I'm really enjoying it too, as a sometime angler and long time Vic n Bob fan. I don't care much for Paul generally but he comes across a decent guy. The chemistry of their friendship isn't forced and just makes you laugh as that's how mates talk and take the piss.
You can understand a lot of it having faced death and not knowing how long they have left, my uncle had a triple bypass and suffered with severe depression afterward, it's apparently very common after major heart surgery.
I did enjoy The Trip tremendously and this has the makings of a similar series.

Thanks for bringing this to my (our attention). Missed the first episode but watched last night's and loved it.
Fan of both comedians and indeed of fishing, so perfect TV for me. Would love to live in that place by the river Wye they were staying in! Hot tib didn't look too 'hot' though
