Springwatch is back, but they've only gone and ruined it. .... No Martin Hughes Games, instead smiling boy Steve Backshall, him from Deadly 60 with the rictus grin and unfeasible big muscles for a naturalist.

Michaela is, as always, loveliness personified but the new bird out in the field will not stop waving her arms around. STOP WAVING YOUR ARMS AROUND GODAMMIT !

Typical of the Beeb, spend years perfecting the perfect formula..... then go and spoil it. confused

The line up has changed over the years. It used to feature Bill Oddie, Kate Humble and Simon King.

Bill Oddie was painful to watch in the last series he was in.
It was obvious he hated everyone who worked with him & it was equally clear that the feelings were mutual.

MHG is off doing other stuff, but as I understand things, he'll be back. Steve Backshall is one of three presenters who is filling-in for him over this series. So he does some weights, so what?

Always loved Bill Oddie. Still miss him.

Michaela Strachan is cringe-worthy. How she ever got/gets paid employment in the U.K. media is beyond me.

Bill Oddy was dumped for being a pompous megalomaniac.

Michaela Srachan has always been a fragrant elf and is worth every penny.

What else does Martin Hughes Games have going on that is so important ?

I only ask as you sound like you know what's going on inside the Beeb.

Why does Spring watch start just as Summer's about to arrive?

Summer does not start until June 21st or on the June solstice.

Gillian is absolutely crap, .
Her delivery is poor, needs work. But certainly passionate. Sounds like she is nervous, I would not like to do it.

She was terrible when she first started, and only slightly better now.

Think this is her 4th appearance as she started in last years SW &. did AW an WW as well.

They usually have the Scottish chap do the Highlands & Orknies, don’t know where he’s gone.

Yep ..... that's my point ......... we've already had 10 weeks of spring and there's only 3 weeks left until summer arrives - but the programme has only just started.
Ok it is still technically still Spring, but surely it should be scheduled to start about 6 weeks earlier in mid (or even earlier, at the start of) spring - rather than just before Summer starts.
Daffodils and Bluebells - two flowers synonymous with British spring time - flowered ages ago and have since died off as we're now so close to summer.

This is animal spring watch though and it's only late spring that the eggs have hatched, little birdies flutter their wings and fawns gambol (gambling can be addictive kids). That is more interesting, unless you enjoy watching sparrow porn.

I wondered if this was to do with the pasting we had earlier in the year.

I don't think that's got anything to do with it, a quick google seems to suggest it always starts right at the end of Spring ...... when everything has sprung.

& point taken, but it may have sprung but plants are not quite fully out.

In terms of the birds & the bees, there still at it, & many birds have only just arrived from foreign shores.

There is also the effect of the bad winter this year which was felt in many other countries. Swifts still haven’t arrived in any great numbers yet.

Yes, the program starts the same time each year.

The two ginger brothers who were interviewed in the butterfly release segment are mates of mine smile. They helped me develop my wildflower meadow two years ago!

Martin was interviewed earlier in the week and accepted that it was correct to bring more diversity into the team - not sure if he meant it or not but I get the feeling he won’t be coming back frown

Gillian really needs to work on her delivery - it’s too laboured and not natural.

Nice picking up rubbish but be nicer if the feckers didn’t drop it.
