Flipping Bangers on Blaze (not sausage related)
Discussion
Spotted this in the programme guide earlier (repeat from Friday).
Bargain basement early Wheeler Dealers copy, in which a boat builder and a motoring photographer pretend that they have quit their day jobs to start a business buying cheap cars, fixing them up, and selling them on.
Looks like they are featuring some "PistonHeady" cars - GTi, 155, BX, 924, MR2, 190, MX5, Spitfire, and, er, Metro..
First two episodes available on catchup, if you're interested - http://www.blaze.tv/series/seasons?series=Flipping...
Blaze - Freeview 63, Freesat 162, Virgin 216, Sky 565

Yes, you've summed it up pretty well there.Easy to pick faults and criticise, but it's watchable; they seem to be genuine petrolheads.
MkIV Spitfire and Mk2 Golf Gti 8v so far.
If you go in expecting a low-rent, budget affair, you won't be disappointed. I watched the first two back to back, and it held my attention for the two hours. Not sure I'd buy one of their cars though (Kurust is NOT a top coat!)
Citroen BX GTi 16v on the 27th April. Now that's a bit of me

I never believe these shows and this one is no different. I once rebuilt a car that had been dry stored for 8 years, the job was never ending,,, nothing like these shows.
Engine: coolant had turned to jelly in alloy, so all water related had to be stripped and cleaned.
Brakes, the pipes looked ok, but had rusted from inside and I could snap them, all replaced
Brake calipers seized, tried cleaning and replacing seals, but still caused car to pull to one side.
Rust: yes lots of repairs
Electrics, yes dodgy connections galore
Fuel: blocking carb despite filters
Oil leaks ( the engine was fine apart from that)
Clutch cylinder leaked
took me months and twice what the car was worth to get it half decent, it then needed another grand to get it right, by then I just sold it.
They managed to get a golf without an engine, pick one up for under 300 quid that miraculously was not buggered, burning oil, shot bearings etc,,, yes sure, then in 7 days get it sold.
I would much rather a real picture where they buy one, its a dog, costs them far more repair as they tell the truth.

While I agree with you, it's once again a case of having to remind somebody that what you see on TV is there for entertainment; it's not the real story.Engine: coolant had turned to jelly in alloy, so all water related had to be stripped and cleaned.

That said, these days the premise of most shows like FB is that there has to be 'jeopardy' every way you turn. The stupid thing is that if they followed the idea you mentioned, where they actually do it warts & all, then there is actually genuine jeopardy in almost every situation! A cursory look through Readers Rides on here or forums like RR show that with real restos come real, genuine problems.
I thought I recognized the guy with the side burns! He was on this a few years ago........

Yes the Alfa one last night was alright, but I was just a bit surprised they didn't do same as the breakers programme after it and try to sell some bits on day 5.
They scrapped some not turned a wheel refurbished alloys, a mint interior and an engine with 73k miles on it with a cambelt they had just fitted.
On the next programme they fitted a cambelt to an identical engine (OK so 2.0 instead of 1.8) and then sold it for £500.
I enjoy this programme but thought they had missed a trick.

What a load of borrocks.
Artificial time limit,a buyer at £300, reconditioned alloys, good engine with a new cam belt and it gets crushed.
Another fake car business, any normal garage would have persevered with the welding..... actually any normal garage would have inspected it thoroughly before they started

I can understand them chucking the towel in, but yes absolutely ludicrous that they crushed it with all the rare parts on it. Lost a bit of respect for the show once I saw that. Shame, because taken for what it is, it was actually doing well up to that point. Artificial time limit,a buyer at £300, reconditioned alloys, good engine with a new cam belt and it gets crushed.
