The James Bond Thread
Discussion
Splitting away from the "Moonraker" thread in order to get to the real issues at hand.
I have been a James Bond fan since I was 5 years old and, one rainy Saturday afternoon, Goldfinger was on TV and my dad and I sat and watched it at his insistence, and as soon as I saw that Aston Martin, I was spellbound.
I have seen all of the films multiple times, however, I guess it is also fair to say that I have left it some considerable time between viewings and so each time I watch them again, I don't always remember every bit.
But what I want to know are, what are your Top 3 Bond films and also, Top 3 Bond Songs.
For me:
Films:
1. Goldfinger
2. GoldenEye
3. From Russia With Love
Songs:
1. A View To A Kill
2. Live And Let Die
3. The Spy Who Loved Me

I couldn't do a "top 3" as I like most of them, for various reasons, and find it hard to pick one above another. My first ever visit to the cinema was with my Dad, to see "Live and Let Die", and other than the voodoo bits it was great, and it's kept me interested. I tend to prefer the more modern stuff, so regardless of whether they might be cinema classics, I rarely watch the older ones. I really enjoyed the Roger Moore films when they were new, probably because of my first one, but there are some aspects now that do look quite dated. The Dalton films were an improvement, at the time, but now he looks a bit stilted in some scenes, so the Brosnan ones were an improvement. And so on.
As for themes, I also remember that one of the first LPs I borrowed from the local library was the James Bond themes record, which I played over and over for the fortnight I was allowed to keep it, until recording it onto a cassette before it went back. I really like the opening sequence of "Tomorrow Never Dies", in particular the stirring music as you see the missiles-eye view as it flies toward the arms bazaar, but without the accompanying film it's probably not that special.

While I'm here, and because it cropped up on conversation earlier - I can't decide whether my favorite car chase was the Lotus vs Helicopter in The Spy Who Loved Me or the 2CV sequence in For Your Eyes Only.

has anyone got a favourite villain lair?
Strombergs as mentioned above, who can beat a base that can rise out of the sea like Godzilla, has helicopter pads and boat docks and a massive aquarium with added shark to chomp on unwanted enemies. Granted it probably could have been located in a more picturesque area. Lake Como would have been good.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
