I hear they're having a 3rd go at Spiderman in a generation - they've got a 14 year old Lad lined up for it this time.
There MUST be some storyline within the comics that allows a continuation, do we really need to see meek boy is bitten by radioactive spider and gains 'powers', boy becomes less meek and uses powers for his own entertainment, by not using his powers for good he inadvertently gets his uncle killed, uses powers for good and becomes spiderman for a 3rd time?

Other than film makers being incredibly lazy, I really don’t see the point in re-making films that were already successful in the past. There must be hundreds, thousands of films made previously that have great stories but were just very poorly executed. Either due to budgets, actors, directors or maybe SFX capabilities at the time, that bombed at the cinema and no one remembers. Surely it’s better to do these screenplays justice rather than simply re-hashing previous films because the formula has worked before.
I understand that the industry is primarily about making money, not art but the way things are going, we are just going to have the same films “re-imagined” every 10 years for the latest generation of movie goers.

<geek>IT is actaully possible to have a new comic book story for Spiderman. </geek>
Was talking about this with someone at work as we had both just seen the new Mad Max film. I agree some films should be rebooted as they weren't done properly in the past. For me it only really works for Action Movies as these can be made much better with CGI, better stunts etc. Comedy's never work as the scripts are often weak and they reuse the same jokes.

I'm having trouble coming up with a single film where this is the case. Any chance of some examples as I can only think of things like Total Recall, Terminator Salvation etc. that are far worse than the original movies despite better FX. SWoll said:

Total Recall (Colin Farrell) was a joke, surely? They took the original and took a big dump on it before concocting *that* attempt at a remake.SWoll said:

Sometimes, in the case of Spiderman for example, they'll actually use the story, but more and more these days they're not bothering, they'll take the most broadest version of the premise possible and make a new film within it - the new Point Break for example - it might reuse a character name here or there and there will no doubt be some surfing in it, but that's where it ends - the whole point to the makers is that people will go to see Point Break, if they called it something else they might not.
I think the most cyclical one I know of is 'Bad Lieutenant', the guy who wrote the remake had never seen the original, knew nothing about it and just wrote a film about a dirty cop in post-Katrina New Orleans - only after they finished it did they tag the name onto it.

Totally agree, I know why they do it - 'Instant Audience' even if we all moan, we'll watch them.

OT - Is that any good? The Abel Ferrara one is good if a bit grim. BOT - To be fair sometimes it works. Fargo was very well done.
The A-Team movie was shocking! Sadly Hollywood is now run by accountants and fund managers who are hugely risk adverse and can only fund films via merchandise. Try pitching an edgy drama or a totally new idea and they switch off...few film makers within the studios are old enough to appreciate true 1950's-1980's tim making and now rely upon effects and the youth to see movies once and move on. Few films today make money until they are on DVD or download....inc Satellite and PPV.
