Indeed, never quite got the Top Gun lurve...Days is a better film I think. I remember my wife saying after we saw it that the accidents were ott.
Back then I used to watch the odd NASCAR race on tv and a few days later we saw a race which made the film look short of budget for the crash scenes, it was utter carnage...
The drivers name Cole Trickle sounded a little silly, but there was/is a real driver called Dick Trickle... I kid you not!
Not many good motor racing films, but days of thunder isn't a bad one.

Awful film. Firstly, he doent have a million gears. Secondly, if you are flat out in top, then changing down a gear wont make you faster. It will, however make all the bits from the engine jump up and go through the bonnet. If he could have accelerated by going down a gear, why didn the sooner? Not the racing driver he thought he was, eh?
Finally, after the race he decided to take off an deliberately ram into the driver who won. At the very least he would be banned fron racing and make to pay all costs. In reality, he might be arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. You simply would never do that. Ever.
Its so bad even Hollywood hasnt bothered to make a sequel/prequel
However, I might watch it: Nicole kidman, you see...

In the genteel world of F1, etc, very true, but in Nascar? Wouldn't be the first time!
