Jonny Smith's Late Brake Show...
Discussion
A splendid video, wonderful group of machines, and a fabulous curator of them too - could have watched another hour quite happily.
I did feel Jonny was a bit unexpectedly ham-fisted with the "you're a woman who's *actually* into cars, neat!" bit, although it was mercifully brief. Seemed an ever so slightly awkward moment between them, as I daresay she's fed up of fielding such comments after a lifetime of enjoying her passion.

Probably because more men than women are interested in cars. Just imagine a series on needlework where Doug the hairy bricklayer has a huge collection of embroidered handkerchiefs and the interviewer says “ you’re a man who’s into crochet. Neat”. Would you feel the need to mention that?

a more interesting thing is not simply to note that a woman who likes cars is, well, a woman, but rather to ask what their experience of being part of such a male-dominated pastime and/or community has been like. what's good, what's bad, etc. I'd be interested to hear that.
personally I think it's a bit boring that it's all men all the time, especially since generally I prefer speaking to women than I do men. The conversations are more interesting.

I've not seen the video yet but felt a need to comment on the point above about women liking cars.
I've known several but they are rare so I don't think it's unreasonable to comment on it. Johnny is awkward at the best of times, that's part of him so although I've not seen that bit, I'm not sure I would have noticed.
Some women appreciate cars, I even know one that likes steam trains.

It is unusual to see a lady with that level of passion for cars, it is also fantastic and once past that minor point its just business as usual, she was brilliant and what a collection.
A mate has a wife who not only likes beer, she likes cars. She’s just bought herself a Ferrari California. Her other car is an AMG SLK 55. Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
