Discussion
Masterminds - so-so comedy based on a true story. Won't set the world alight but harmless enough

Watched the first episode of Supacell tonight. South london based thing (ting?) where six people seemingly randomly get super powers.
Shows promise, but much like when I watched the Marvel show Luke Cage, I feel far too white watching this. Very much aimed at black audiences - that’s not a bad thing but I felt very lost at times with the language and references.
We watched the first two episodes of Supacell this evening and think we’ll continue with it but agree with you about the language and references, not got a clue some of the time. There is definitely an element of Topboy-lite about it but a good premise and comes together in the last few episodes.

Thumbs up for Axel F. Nothing new, more of the same, exactly what I wanted.
A couple of years back it’d have been remade with Axel being out of time and making a dinosaur of himself in a modern woke world. Glad that st is mostly over.
It was OK but I thought they did make a bit deal out of him leaving the daughter, needing therapy, the new guy being sensitive and in touch with his feelings etc. I just jarred a bit but apart from that it was a reasonable effort that was totally predictable.A couple of years back it’d have been remade with Axel being out of time and making a dinosaur of himself in a modern woke world. Just finished Sense8, very good. My thanks to whoever recommended it on here somewhere.
Disney could learn how to do diversity properly from this. Well written diverse characters that you actually care about.
Couldn't agree more, I thought Sense8 was excellent and I was really happy they got to finish the story off. Disney could learn how to do diversity properly from this. Well written diverse characters that you actually care about.

Got two more to watch, It's really silly tbh but a bit of fun & trying to decipher what the young black dudes are saying is a challenge .

American Nightmare
Three part documentary about a reported home invasion and kidnapping of a young woman in California, and the st-show of a police and FBI non-investigation that follows.
Trying to avoid spoilers, so can't say much else, but it's definitely gripping.

Wow. Unimaginable but partly understandable.
I wonder what influence works of fiction had on the line of thinking by the Police.
Excellent documentary. Certainly gripping.

Got half way through it last night, can only make out about half of the dialect, and Mrs Race even less But my biggest gripe, and this happens is a lot....how do the characters finances work?
A delivery driver and a social worker living in central London can afford an 840i Convertible
A single nurse living with her sister is wearing Louboutins and driving an Audi electric Q4
The only believable one is the weed seller's battered 206

Heads up for Godzilla Minus One https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/81767635?s=a&...
Can't believe they dropped this with no fanfare or anything, didn't even show in the new section for me I had to search for it! Glad it's on there though, amazing film.
I fell asleep for 30 minutes in the middle of Atlas, which was definitely a better use of my time.
Really enjoyed that - had no idea what to expect. Certainly didn't disappoint.
Felt annoyed I didn't watch the original version with subtitles, felt the dubbing was pretty dreadful, and really took something away from the film for me.
For me it changes the feeling completely, particularly Japanese. It just sounds wrong.
Like C5_Steve said, it never appeared on my Netflix suggestions, so thanks for the heads-up here.
With regard to subtitles, I was glad to watch the subtitled version, as I usually prefer to hear the original dialogue - to me, it makes a film "feel" more authentic - something about seeing the disconnect between the actors' mouths and the sound I'm hearing often makes dubbed films seem strange - especially if dubbed in a non-matching accent (and there have been some pretty badly dubbed films as well)..
Having said that, ideally it's good if there's a choice, as I can also understand how reading subtitles can be off-putting for some people.
I also saw the latest Beverley Hills Cop - which was very predictable, but fun for the nostalgic element and the music.
