I bought some to give it a go, because why not......and it's excellent. I immediately signed up to a recurring delivery once a month of 24 bottles, I thoroughly recommend it (the original Lager, not tried any of the other variations he's come out with) How is Hawkstone? Is it actually any good or does it get by just because it's Clarkson's?
My July box is due to arrive today, actually. Good job it's not sunny, I might have been tempted by a Monday beer if it was.

It’s great content for the next couple of series if nothing else, I imagine viewers will get bored of revisiting anything covered in the current series so he has to stretch it out a bit.
I’ve tried the Hawkstone IPA and it was very nice indeed. It was brewed for him by an existing brewery, has he essentially purchased that too?

The funny thing is.. Some of the locals and the council were opposed to the farm shop once they realised how popular it was - and tried to effectively close it by doing all they could to block the car park and simultaneously complain about people parking on the road. They didn't want the restaurant etc, it would just bring even more people..BUT that's probably a big part of why he's bought the pub - because it already exists, has permission to exist and can do all he needed to do at the farm shop site. It can be a restaurant, it can sell whatever merch it wishes too, it can obviously sell beer etc. And no matter how busy it gets there is no leverage the locals or council can use to try and limit it's appeal, because it already has exists and has all it needs to trade.
I mean.. If I bought a sleepy village pub and somehow made it so incredible that 1200 people a day popped in for a pint, the locals would be bemused for sure but, what could they do? It would just be a wildly popular pub! There's no limit to how many punters a business can attract once it's there.
I enjoyed the hawkstone lager. I'd buy it again if I came across it in a shop.
I went there a year or so ago. Pleasant enough hour or so spent there had a look in the shop and a pint round the back. Was a nice sunny day and only a short queue plus I was in the area anyway. Enjoyed it but wouldn't go back especially.
Think he will do well with the pub idea. I assume it will get a full refit using Amazon money and he can highlight the plight of British pubs, just like he did with farmers.

Pubs in tourist areas sometimes sell t-shirts and one in a village I used to live in sold milk, sugar, eggs etc in the mornings.
Obviously it still has to be predominantly a pub, but it could be.
All they really need to get out of the actual farm shop is the non-local merch. The pub can sell that all day long with no usage change required.

That's true, but I can see why he would have wanted to have his own setup, on his own land, all built to suit their needs for the shop etc, including be simple and controllable in terms of filming.That's my point really, by making what he ideally wanted so difficult, the locals may have actually done their bit to motivate the buying of a pub - which they could well end up loathing more than the shop/restaurant combo.
I'm aware that in the recent series it was revealed that they had won the appeal and can now have the restaurant and car park, but what they can sell is still limited to only local produce, which is fine for most things but not for the merch, which I'm sure must make a LOT of money.
