"Soap in budgeting row" headlines the Sunday Mirror as it reports on Coronation Street actors "angry" over a cut in hours to save cash. It claims "cash-strapped" bosses have caused panic slashing the number of stars in storylines. The tabloid quotes one insider saying of Corrie stars: "Some haven't filmed for weeks."
Far too many "actors" in the show, they could get rid of half of them and you wouldn't even notice. You never see the quads for weeks,
A tad unfair - legal limits apply to filming of children and I , for one would certainly notice absences of most of the cast . As for the presumably pejorative 'actors' I think most of them do a very decent job , and some outstandingly so. It is only when one encounters an actor who really shouldn't be there - Wooden Will .notoriously and Am Dram Liam - that the performance of most of the cast comes into sharper focus . And , most unfairly, actors sometimes get blamed for poor scripts. They don't get much time for rehearsals and it's not multi take Hollywood or Netflix , I think they do a decent job. Enough to keep me ensnared for many years anyway . Far too many "actors" in the show, they could get rid of half of them and you wouldn't even notice. You never see the quads for weeks,

How would you reduce the budget by the supposed 15%? eldar said:

Hard to argue with that. Who else could be removed without much impact.? The vicar, certainly.
Michael Le Vell AKA Kevin Webster. One of the longer serving actors, accordingly, probably on a fair old wage. What does he bring to things? The odd huff and grunt, and employment of whoever the reprobate of the moment is.eldar said:

TV advertising revenues uncertain, Corrie viewing figures falling, time for a bit of pruning and fewer ludicrous storylines.Far too many "actors" in the show, they could get rid of half of them and you wouldn't even notice. You never see the quads for weeks,

Who do you think is the best "actor" on the cobbles, both male and female?
By that. I mean someone who in real life is nothing like or sounds like their Street personality, because I am sure many of them are just like that off set.
For instance Les Battersby's "Cilla" is actually quite refined in real life.

I'd define good acting not so much as becoming someone else (which every decent actor can do ) but by a whole range of techniques
- conveying emotion by the subtlest change in expression
- by adding nuance and new meaning to even a wooden script
- by inhabiting your character
- by knowing when to pause and when to rush
- by reacting to someone else's speech rather than just waiting for your cue
- by being able to become a range of characters , rather than being stereotyped in one role
The last is damn hard to achieve if your whole life is spent in one role .For example , I suspect Steve MacDonald , great though he is in his role, would not make a god Hamlet.
Roy is wonderful - and I'd love to see the actor in a Pinter or Stoppard play . We already know Maureen Lipman is sublime, but with her experience that is no surprise. My wild card Shakespearean nominees are Carla as Lady Macbeth, Dev as Coriolanus , Gemma as Ariel and Ken as King Lear ,

Not Daisy, I'll contribute to 'er wage.....
Not Asda, but not 'so' desperate there
Aldi can go
Kirk certainly can go
On the wall about a few others such as
Jenny
Ed and family (we must'nt be seen as being racist, must we?)
Gail can go, But certainly not Sara and Bethany....perhaps we could see even more of Bethany?
Ed and Aggie story is dead anyway now
Kirk adds nothing and is only in for comedy value (limited)
Kevin and his garage - what recent story of any interest?
Fizz - likewise, literally no character story or interest since she returned from wherever it was
The teenage bullying story is almost done, get rid of the bully and Shauns lad.
Goth lady in the cafe- her story is done, what does she add to anything
Likewise Billy once Paul has shuffled off at long last.
Todd/Aileen/funeral director add nothing
Look back over the last few years and the amount of nonsense dead end storylines is horrific tbh, we've ended up back relying on the same few strong characters recently
