I'm going to second The Wicker Man, City Of God, Taxi, They Live, Delicatessen and Garden State, and add the original Assault On Precinct 13 and Amores Perros (a Mexican film called "Life's A Bitch" in English). I also don't think Sideways got as many viewers as it deserved.

'The Hurricane' staring Denzel Washington which is a true story, I think it went straight to DVD across here. For me its his best performance so far but I also enjoyed Man On Fire by him which was another underated film.

I watched Good Will Hunting last night which I thought was a good film.

Standar - True story about Andre Standar The Head of police in jo'burg during the 70's. He was fed up with apartheid and how the whites could away with anything. So he decided to become a bank robber.

Incognito

Three art dealers employ a tormented forger (Patric) to paint a 'lost' Rembrandt. Director Badham opts to play it straight, as if this will somehow render the whole exercise less preposterous. Choice moments include Patric daubing furiously in an Amsterdam garret, his sweaty torso decoratively splashed with paint, and the jaw-dropping revelation that a gauche Parisian art student (Jacob) is in fact the world authority on the Dutch master. A plot to frame the forger for murdering one of the dealers culminates with a ludicrous scene at the Old Bailey in which Donovan attempts to prove his innocence by reproducing 'live' his fake masterpiece.

Agree with Raify on The Last Seduction, and also recommend another (by the same director, John Dahl) called Red Rock West; excellent modern film noir with Nicholas Cage and Dennis Hopper.

May not be lesser known but "Heat" & "Leon" are two of my favorite ever films!

I suggest you rent them out if you have not seen them!

Seconding "Kentucky Fried Movie", and also "Top Secret" for stupid comedy. These are the two 'forgotten' movies from the "Airplane" stable. Both are very childish, and packed with visual jokes (I recently spotted a new one in KFM after 15 years) and silly lines. With KFM, you should watch "Enter The Dragon" beforehand to appreciate how perfect the "Fistful of Yen" pastiche is.

I would also recommend the spaghetti westerns "A Fistful Of Dynamite" (recently remastered for DVD), and Sergio Leone's "Once Upon A Time In The West". It's like watching lost Man With No Name westerns where you don't already know the endings.

Stumbled across Red Rock West years ago, late on night on Channel 4 - thoroughly enjoyed it. Good recommendation!

The Castle
An australian comedy that starts out like a poor episode of neighbours but has moments of pure comic genius.

'Jane Austen's Mafia!'

Made by the same people who did the Naked Gun films, starring Leslie Nielsen, it parodies every single Mafia flick perfectly - Goodfella's, The Godfather, Scarface, Carlito's Way, Donnie Brasco - the lot of them, and not in a crass way either. OK, so a lot of it's very Naked Gun and hilariously OTT, but if you're a fan of Scorsese's films you'll appreciate all the subtle humour too. I stumbled across it late one night on BBC1 at about 11.30 and it had me in stitches to the point where I was still laughing out loud in my sleep.

I get the idea that perhaps when it was released, most of the in-jokes went straight over most people's heads, and the title is totally misleading (it's got nothing to do with Jane Austen for a start), but I suggest, if you're into Mafia films, you track it down. I can't find it anywhere though.

TBH I don't think I've ever seen a comedy with Leslie Nielsen in it that didn't have me pissing myself laughing.

Two of my favorites also- and two massive blockbusters which everyone on this forum will have seen.
Good taste though

Funny Games. It's one freaky film.
