In the '80's nuclear conspiracy films were de rigeur (the daddy being the frankly peerless Edge of Darkness) and in the dim recesses of my mind I recall such a film made in Oz which I thought starred Steve Bisley. As an impressionable teen the only image that was seared into my brain was the main character's rather attractive other half/fellow fugitive being forced to scrub in a handily transparent decontamination shower... getmecoat

A quick Goggle reveals only "Ground Zero" as a contender though scant evidence exists and Mr Bisley didn't feature.
The Chain Reaction.

Pretty shocking how the locals were/are treated by the Australians/Colonials/British.
This is what immediately sprung to my mind when I read the thread title. The determination of those young girls was amazing.

Why would you have to be brave? Decent enough film - mentioned earlier in the thread.

Eagerly clicked on this thread to get some decent hints for good films and this thread is proof positive that the Australian film industry is a load of rubbish!

That very much depends upon what your idea of a good film is.

Well given that you cited "Bad Boy Bubby" under the title of Favourite Australian films, it's clear that neither I, nor the rest of the adult world, are going to share your taste.

You've seen the film then? The one that won 9 international film awards upon it's release and has a 7.5 rating on IMDB? These adults http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106341/reviews?ref_=t... seem not to agree with you - maybe they've seen it?

Yes I have seen it, twice in fact.
I watched it once in my early teens with friends and we thought it was the best film ever because we were titillated by such taboo subjects being shoehorned into one film.
Then I watched it again as an adult and thought it was a silly film that had only one point - to gratuitously shoehorn as many taboo subjects into one film to titillate youngsters.
When I first watched it I may well have written a review similar to the ones you cited (and you say 'adult reviews' I only read the fist and it was a child whos parents had gone out). If I watched it for the first time as an adult I would switch it off after 15 minutes and never think of it again.
Still, each to their own- you think it's brilliant and that's fine. I think its crap, along with many of the films suggested in this thread. Its just a matter of opinion so you don't need to try and correct me.

Actually I did like The Dish very much. I also liked several of the films in this thread.
My comment was a tongue-in-cheek one based more on the fact that the thread mentions about 7 decent films IMO- which span about 3 generations. Its a pretty meagre haul for 40 years of Aussie cinema

Ah well, you seem to be in the minority of adults. If all you think the film is about is to gratuitously shoehorn as many taboo subjects into one film to titillate youngsters, then sadly, you've missed the point.

However, I'm not going to patronise you by trying to explain it hehe

Still, surely you can find one Aussie film you like?

With a population of just 20+million, I think that it's a reasonable output. Especially considering it's English speaking and therefore will be competing for audiences with Hollywood and even the UK.

You would, as you just see whatever I have said and argue the opposite every time you can. Its becoming a touch uncomfortable, a bit like when your creepy uncle is a bit forceful in his volunteering to take you to cubs.
