the co-driver learning she wasn't there to drive
Gruffy - I didn't understand that bit. I don't remember seeing her being told she wasn't driving, I just assumed she never drove because they only had one evening session and never got into the swing of it? When did she get told that?
He broke the news to her after she just finished a track race in her 911 :/

Careful, this is how rumours start...

Personally, I would have taken that MGA over that Maser any day.
Having had 2 x 1600 pushrods and a Twin Cam in my younger days, I tend to agree!

I thought that was that she WAS going to be the co-driver, that was the first meeting of the two wasn't it?

When the car had troubles she was interviewed and said "I'm glad it wasn't me driving".

So he was due to drive the whole thing? If so, what was the point in getting along a race driver?

I'm all confused hehe

It does seem a bit contentious.

As I understood it, he was going to do the lion's share of the driving with her doing some, but not as much as him. If it hadn't have popped on the first evening I reckon she'd have taken over the next day.

I did feel sorry for him - it was clearly his dream and something he always wanted to do. If I'd have been him, I'd have been gutted aswell.

He just has this whiff of spoilt-ness about him though, even though he's obviously worked extremely hard for everything he's got. I think the upset of it going bang on the first day conveyed an image of "I'm taking my toys home and not playing anymore. Harumph"

He was explaining that her primary role is reading the map, not driving. The impression I got was that she was needed to tackle the driving at any time he'd decided he wanted a quick break (and, I assume, to add some 'interest' to the film).

I want to see the extended programme where he returns home and beats the engine guy into a pulp having spent £300K for 200 miles.

Shame he was unable to finish hopefully he will run it again and complete it and then get his money back.

Was his bubble car too young for the event? He had one in his garage.

And a Gullwing that I presume was too young.

I'd suggest his engine builder would gently enquire about how he ran it in before the event and how closely he monitored the max revs during it...

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but only just got to watch it this evening.

Probably going against the grain but I thought it was quite good. He possibly went a little over the top on the £cash front, but hey you can't take it with you at the end of the day. Certainly gutting about the car failure and we are left with screaming at the tv - why didn't you drive it more before the event??? duh.

But other than that, I thought it was an ok bit of tv.

(Not sure about telling the gf that you had chosen a different blonde to be your copilot. Yeah, not sure I would have done that personally.)
