I'd also recommed 'Black ball' with Paul Kaye. Has anyone mentioned 'Withnail and I'??

Recent film that I was impressed with was Garden State, even more so when I realised it was not only acted in but also was written, directed by Zach Braff (of Tv's Scrubbs fame), as his first film it was quite something.

For an all time favoutite though it would probably have to be Mystery Train, although most things by Jim Jarmusch come highly recommended, genius.

Billy the Kid

No it's not about the gunslinger but a very low budget 'horror' film about the end result of an 'interaction' between a woman and a goat - one of the funniest films I have ever seen.

Kentucky Fried Movie is also PMSL funny

Both should only be watched late at night after heavy beer sessions with a bunch of mates.

Yeah Eraserhead. Do you remember when they're sitting round a table in silence for ages and the cooked chicken starts to move around. Then one of the guys says, "Well, what d'ya know Malcolm?" I think, or was it the drugs? Weird.

Yes. Perfectly exemplifies that flutter you get only in the initial stages of mutual love, that makes life feel so complete.

I remember really enjoying an 80's Film Four productioni called 'Restless Natives'

i haven't seen it for a while so I'm not sure it would still stand up today, but the Big Country soundtrack was great

Lovely little 'feel good' movie. Not available on DVD, but occasionally crops up on VHS at extortionate prices.

An engaging story and beautifully made.

For the guys:

The Limey. This is just a great film. Terence Stamp is just superb.

For the gals:

If Only. Totally underrated film and had me in tears at the end. Although thats not difficult. has a fine appearence by Penelope Cruz but sadly is one of the last appearences of Charlotte Coleman.

Stickmen

quote of IMDB

"What stickmen gives you is 1.5 hrs of laughs followed by tension, followed by romance followed by pool. It is full of kiwi humour and although a different genre to "brain dead" it clearly has the same down to earth non pompous attitude to laughter."

These may be a little more famous:

Dogma.
High Fidelity.
and something called Waterland (not Waterworld) I think. Last saw it years ago but can't remember why I liked it!
