Ok, it's a New Zealand film so sue me. It can be very hard to watch due to the content like domestic violence and abuse but definitely worth your time.

And it has Jake The Muss.

That was a great film, somewhat hard to watch though as you say.
Quite different from Temuera's previous role in Shortland Street (if anyone remembers that)
And in the Star Wars movies!

I watched that film in NZ at a hostel and it was 50% locals with quite a few tattoed ones who'd heard it was being shown. Quite an experience and the passion, anger and patriotism felt in the room was profound but an amazing experience all the same. smile

Compare that with watching Independence Day in the US at a cinema and the difference was quite sad! whooping and clapping, crying! hehe
I've since been assured by other Americans that was the norm.

Yeah right!

The Castle. Great feel good film that I can somehow see appealing to PHers even though it's not about cars or anything.

Here are a couple :

The Year My Voice Broke - probably the best coming of age film I've ever seen. Hard to get hold of but well worth it, as is the excellent sequel Flirting.

High Tide - a great film with the wonderful Judy Davis

Picnic at Hanging Rock (and other Peter Weir films - Gallipoli in particular)

The Year of Living Dangerously

Death in Brunswick (Sam Neill is always watchable - plays against type here - Dead Calm is another one he is great in)

Mad Max - I love the original - the ultimate petrolhead exploitation movie

Bad Taste - Peter Jacksons early work.

Gallipoli - the Jean Michelle Jarre sound track isn't quite in keeping with the period

Bangkok Hilton - I think it was a TV mini series but as I recall did have Nicole Kidman in the buff.

Give it a rest, its obvious something went wrong hence the multiple posts. I posted once and once only - why the other posts appeared I have no idea. That should have been obvious.

The Cars That Ate Paris
Picnic at Hanging Rock

if we can stretch to including New Zealand films then it would have to be The Quiet Earth.

And I guess New Zealand would mean Peter Jackson's stuff too - Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, Braindead, Heavenly Creatures. Maybe the Frighteners. LOTR etc. don't count.

Was JA 16 or 17 when she swam in the billabong?
Yes she was, pervs...

I haven't been through this whole thread so apologies if Peter Wier's early works have been mentioned, then here's my +1 :
Picnic At Hanging Rock (Beautifully made even if you can't tell what's happening)

The Last Wave (Beautifully made even if you don't believe what's happening)

Gallipoli (Beautifully made even if you can't believe such horror actually happened!)

Yeah I'm stretching with Last Wave, it always looked abit TV-movieish at least in prints sent to the USA, still outstanding for many reasons.

Indeed a tough watch but I keep coming back to this scene:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmOIzXZyIYo

Still get goosebumps when Jake first says "Uncle Bully..."

Back on topic, and speaking of Goose, another vote for Mad Max and MM2.

In the '80's nuclear conspiracy films were de rigeur (the daddy being the frankly peerless Edge of Darkness) and in the dim recesses of my mind I recall such a film made in Oz which I thought starred Steve Bisley. As an impressionable teen the only image that was seared into my brain was the main character's rather attractive other half/fellow fugitive being forced to scrub in a handily transparent decontamination shower... getmecoat

A quick Goggle reveals only "Ground Zero" as a contender though scant evidence exists and Mr Bisley didn't feature. Maybe it'll have to stay locked in the "did I imagine that?" vault along with the film set, I think, in Berlin in the 80's ending with a rock dude crashing a Trans-Am in a tunnel, getting out and yelling "Rock and Roll!!!" before the credits fall.

Oh, and the scene from Wolf Creek featuring a flask, a muzzle flash and a V8 yes
