Quite enjoyed this episode despite not being a big fan of minis.
Thought that Elvis could have involved the apprentice’s more than being hoist button pushers and tooth counters on the final drive. How much experience would they have got from rebuilding the engine under instruction from Elvis, he is an ex F1 mechanic don’t yer know? Appeared to troubleshoot engine and dismantle it on his own. If I had been an apprentice I would have worked unpaid to gain useful experience, how good would that look on your CV?
Still interesting never the less, paint job cost £2k? So the school charged them going rate for respray I think, presumably all done by apprentice’s under supervision, great training for them
Less spannering as usual and visiting paddy hopkirks home was OK, another free holiday to Monaco for Mike and Elvis. What a job, working on cars in exotic locations with all expenses paid by film company, wish it were me![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

I would have thought there is much competition to get a position as a mechanic in F1, decent salary interesting work, travelling the world.
Probably quite a small world where word of mouth about a mechanic counts for a lot. Can’t see them advertising on gumtree for a mechanic, most likely recommended by existing mechanics plus they need to know that a new guy will work as a team with them.
Hence my comment on people on here being hard on him, from the programmes he seems to have expertise on building engines etc rather than bodywork although I would guess you have to be a good all round mechanic to be employed on F1

Just one episode from America; that is a bit of a disappointment, I was looking forward to more, I’m partial to a bit of Americana.
Although Mike has worked in America before, probably difficulties with work/filming/business visas, America seems fairly strict on that stuff.
That could be the reason for the colab with Taverish, who has previous experience, working with UK vloggers.
Big fan of Mini’s, Elvis, “The rev counter needs to be centre stage.” Only if you’re a contortionist, judging by the positioning.
The final selling price £12,500 seemed very fair, considering what Mini’s sell for.
I’ve said it before, but I have really enjoyed the series.
