Well that was different and a first, no spoilers.
Switched it off as soon as they revealed what they were going to do. Had it been putting a flood damaged P1 back on the road then I may have stuck with it as that would have been technically interesting. Once it revealed as just another mega-power ICE build it became boring.

Each to their own but WD has been struggling for quite a while now. Maybe he has recognised a change in the viewing demographic and is just catering to that.

I quite enjoyed it. Made a change. Freddie is one of the few “colonial” YouTubers I like watching. Comes across as very genuine and enthusiastic without Yeehaaing every ten seconds.

Just watched the P1 episode, every part of that was an insult to anyone's intelligence, either trivia or magic, I'm not convinced I would trust Elvis with the cam timing on my expensive engine

A bit harsh I think, he must have been a decent mechanic to get into F1.

Youth training scheme? Is that true? From the few bits of spannering he does I think he has been a good mechanic however why give up the glamorous life of a F1 mechanic to join WD?

Travel the world, all expenses paid and a decent salary.

I thought it was more interesting than the Aussie ones which weren’t great.

I hope they go back to finish it off one day.

I watched WD from the very first episode. Used to love it however I have long since stopped / logged off. I accept its more about entertainment than fixing up cars but even then it was becoming repetitve and dull. An hour long show was really 15mins of value.

Ive moved on to youtube and the numerous different channels, many mentioned here on pistonheads via other threads.

WD had its time, was a forefather but its perhaps time to put it to bed ?

One thing I cant stand is listening to Mike's wife talk on X or Insta. He really needs to stop her add ins as she sounds awful and really makes you switch off.

I also watched Wheeler Dealers from day one (and have watched them many times over), it was OK with Ant once EDD had departed although his presentation was a little odd at times, but I just cannot get on with Elvis, it just comes over as two presenters with a load of mechanics in the background who do all the work.

I know its for entertainment but it doesn't actually entertain me anymore to the extent that this new series, although I record it its usually deleted before I've watched it.

Shame really.

This TV format is dead, there are many more great channels on YouTube doing it better. I'm surprised Discovery are still flogging this dead horse all be it with a new mechanic.

I mean a ropey as hell Focus ST with valve damage, that's what they are buying to repair?

I’m in the minority as I still enjoy the program, if it wasn’t on there would be some rubbish I’d have no interest in at all on. I have plenty of admiration for what Mike does especially for the amount of grief people give him on social media. I like Elvis, liked Ant as well, really do not understand the love in for Edd.

I think that was by far the worse episode of WD they've ever made. Getting involved in someone else's project for a few days on a build that's going to take months was just a bad idea from the start. The world tour has been different and on the whole fairly interesting but Monday night's episode was a big mistake.

Maybe it's because they showed him doing more work on the cars, compared to Ant and Elvis.

I assume he decided to take the hybrid hardware out of the P1 as was borked from the flooding and IIRC horrendously expensive to replace from McLaren.

Power upgrade apart, it probably makes a more logical solution for future ownership proposition providing they get the wiring, coding and tuning all sorted. Could still go very wrong though.

Freddie is having a custom harness made so the car will not be looking for the hybrid system

Could be something to do with Mclaren not supplying parts; I really enjoyed this episode, as I am most of this season.

It was a bit of a weird episode. Very nothingy, as if it hadn't really been thought through properly and was done on the fly.

The show does seem to have dumbed down a bit in recent times. Much less of the interesting mechanicals bit and much more seems to get done off camera when you look at the end product compared to the start.

I like Elvis, he's enthusiastic and comes across well on screen. I just don't think he's got enough airtime for the mechanical stuff.

As I watch it via the discovery app now rather than on linear telly, then I should probably check if it has the same running time, as it almost seems as if the show is shorter and the bits chopped out were the interesting ones.

Yes, hence the issue getting the wiring to work properly, removing the hybrid from all the engine mapping and tuning the engine to work without the hybrid - I watched the programme too. Whether that makes the engine similar to one of the regular series McLarens of the period I don't know, i.e. it's more or less a 650S.
