Just started watching dream car as it came up as recommended, picked the Golf GTI episode first seemed like a good concept.

I'm picking and choosing the episodes I want to watch first instead of doing them in order but its been quite good so far.

$42k. for that! No interior at all, no curtains, flooring. The solar will rip off if the van is driven above 40 mph. The fillers/drain for the water tanks faced inboard. That sunshade goes the wrong way, back into the van. No bed....and thats just the start....... Nice colour tho! Oh and the gear lever works nicely.

I enjoyed this episode, a nice mix of repairs and installation. Reading the above yes maybe the solar would be ripped off but surely the supplier would have sussed that out and made the adhesives strong enough.

Missed if a bed was fitted I thought it was?

All I saw was a very tatty looking rock n roll bed. No curtains, flooring, insulation anywhere. Breewer talked about a fridge but didnt see one.

In OZ a few years ago, we bought a Mazda E3000, with pop top, a fullish kitchen. The bed was made up from the sitting area. Underneath water tank with pump, Small fridge that was gas powered, all for $7500. After 3 1/2 months we sold it on for $6750!

Also in the "totting" up the costs, was the ozzie mech paid? $75 and hour for him NOT included.

It was a set up, the buyer was fictitious.

Wonder why he didn’t list the costs and just stated a figure?

A single bed was fitted going by the comments made during the credits but nothing shown during the programme. I enjoyed it as well. Seemed fairly inexpensive in the end.

Literally one post later. In what way is any car they ever do not a loss? Show me your working how doing up bangers in a fully equipped workshop for television with a mechanic you see on screen & several you don't, camera operators, a director, sound guys, set designers, make up people, script writers, producers, accountants, catering, electiricians, grips, editors and presenters has a dollar in it,
You're conflating two universes there and using it as a stick to beat the pogramme with, which is not right. The premis of WD was about a home mechanic doing up a car and selling it "hopefully for a profit". That's the universe that the programme is about. A home mechanic doesn't have lots of other mechanics, director, sound guys, set designers, make up people, script writers, producers, accountants, catering, electiricians, grips, editors and presenters etc. That's all behind the fourth wall in the TV universe.

Last night the target vehicle was a 1999 HiLux with 300k Kms bought for 11k Aus$. The usual off road stuff was added such as snorkel, too bars, huge tyres etc and it was sold for 18k Aus$. We never got to see the interior properly but it looked a lot better than a car with that mileage should do. They did mention costs but unless I missed they didn’t do a final tot up. I suspect it was a bit of a loss.

Another good advert for Toyota hiluxe. Just like the top gear episode. Non destructive testing!

Mechanically needed new suspension bushes not surprising considering the mileage and Australian roads. Rest was cosmetic.

Inside looked excellent considering the mileage and they did not need to do work on engine after 30000K.

He seems to have stopped listing the costs on screen for some reason.

All it needed was a .50cal and they could’ve sold it to the Taliban. wink

As soon as he said it was high mileage I was thinking 180,000 miles. It turns out I was only about 7000 miles out.

I think there was too much filler in the show and not much about the work. Mike off-roading went on for far too long. Luckily I had recorded it so fast forwarded through that.
