I couldn't remember what happened and who was with who. I thought it was dull. Terrible security if assassins can just wander around the royal quarters, then not checking for a cock.
If I could remember who's who and where they all live it would have helped. And apparently "winter is coming" at the wall. FFS it was coming for 8 series of GOT!
Amateur murderers, you just can't get the staff nowerdays.
Must admit I watched my recording last night and thought I'd scrap "Series link"
I agree on the struggling to remember front, but I think GOT was the same wasn't it. A bit easier the further in you got, I don't think HOTD benefits from having the 4 actors play the two leads in the first series as now you struggle to link the events to the different faces. But I got over it fairly quickly although I'm sure more pausing and googling will be needed.
I thought this week's episode was a good start, seeing Rhaenyra grieve for her son with her dragon (who'd also lost a child) was very poignant. The fact she only had one line this week was bold and cements the motivation for the atrocities to come.
The opening at the wall with the Starks theme playing in the background was a nice touch, a lot of setting up in this episode which I hope then leads to a bit more action in the coming episodes.
Having no knowledge of the books, the ending came as quite a shock to me. I will say I think the scene lacked any sort of tension building and I'm not sure it worked as well as some of the other twists we've had. It literally went from "they won't possibly murder a child" to "they've just cut his head off" in a split second and it didn't really give the audience that beat to process it. If I think back to eps like The Red Wedding, you had several beats where you slowly but suddenly realised that everything wasn't right and then the moment where you realised what was going to happen. This scene just felt a tad rushed for some reason.
Not the best in terms of action but probably a necessary set up for the season.

Surely it would have been quicker/more rigorous to check for the baby's willy than to ask the mother?
Perhaps but that would have woken both the kids potentially and then you've got 3 mouths to silence. 50/50 on getting it right and if you've woken the wrong one up you need to deal with the other. Did seem a bit odd though.

Not watched the new one yet but don't forget King Viserys was all about The song of ice and fire and accidentally told Alicent instead of his daughter, Rhaeynera that Aegon had predicted she would unite the realm. But in his illness he spoke brokenly and Alicent understood it to mean her son Aegon. And apparently "winter is coming" at the wall. FFS it was coming for 8 series of GOT!

There was a small chance for peace after the dinner Viserys called for. That one sickness addled mistake caused that all to gonunder

GoT though having more characters, was helped by having many excellent actors, many recognisable actors and better written, more interesting characters.C5_Steve said:

Was wondering how they were going to handle this, as in the book the assassins are made out to be a lot more competent, and killing one of the children was always the goal. They ask the mother which one she'd prefer to die, then kill the other whilst telling the surviving child of her choice. So they deliberately held back a little from the source material...Did seem a bit odd though.

Wow that's far darker, now I'm kind of disappointed they dialled it back. C5_Steve said:

hope the dog was ok
A stunt dog? Obviously wasn't kicked for real but should realise the brutal life of a working dog, million miles away from the cuddly pet life.![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)
Watched both episodes now, struggled with the first one, but watched the second one straight after and it's starting to look promising for the series.

Struggled this episode with keeping track who is who (not even meaning the twins fight!).
Speaking of the “prank” as Otto called it, it really was a ridiculous plan.
Maybe it has something to do with the events of the previous season which I can’t entirely remember, but one obvious potential flaw in the twin assassination plan would be that Arryk decides to just defect and join his brother, rather than try and kill rhaenyra. That’s actually what I thought was going to happen.

Though slow, I thought it was very good with some great acting.
I think Otto, though right, was pushing his luck. The twin assassin, though he may have gone along with it, as soon as it comes to fighting your brother, that's where it stops. After being treated like a
, I would've just changed sides. With ser dick as hand, all sensible decisions are gone.
