YES YES YES

I mentioned this the other day and the counter argument was that we (real world) didn't invent them until the 20th century so how could we expect a medieval society to do the same? Aside from the fact that people had been trying to make them work since we'll before Leonardo Da Vinci, I countered that counter with the fact that we didn't have flying machines until then and that one followed the other fairly quickly.

Why do you think one would have been any use anyway - we don't know that hecsurvived the initial attack. The dragon certainly didn't.

That's true. It did look like he'd become an hors d'oeuvre in one gulp. My conversation was sparked by the fact that his mother sent him off on a mission without a parachute.

This has turned a little surreal and not sure what is more daft - discussing the flight physics of fictional dragons or the non-existence of parachutes before 18th century.

That was a good episode and nicely sets up the next series. They did do a Peter Jackson/Hobbit with the series though, stretching out what story they had, but without doing as good a job.

How did Alicents kids grow up to be such s though?

After a slow start it’s definitely getting into its stride now. Roll on S2.

Maybe the dragons use their internal fire generation to make themselves lighter than air for the initial take-off phase? smile

I thought that overall the series was reasonably good, a slow start building to the inevitable cliff hanger ending. The characters don’t feel as memorable as GoT and some of the cgi was pretty weak.

But, I am left looking forward to the next series.

One thing I really like - despite the politicking, etc., none of them actually want war.

A 'series of unfortunate misunderstandings' seem to have created the inevitable conclusion.

I also quite liked the flow from 'when dragons go to war, everything burns' to the aerial dogfight where it was apparent neither rider was in control...

Just bought this on Prime, will start to watch later. It does seem that it has had favourable reviews.

Never been into fantasy stuff but apparently I bloody love dragons, last time I appreciated Dragons on the Telly it was Ivor the Engine in about 1977 !

They add a dimension, air superiority, it is really like having an air force.

I think they look as plausible as imaginary beasts can look, you have to suspend disbelief like being six again and just take it for what it is. I mean, they fly some pretty high G maneuvers without a G suit and just hanging on to some kind of wooden chair strapped to its back, dont need an ejector seat, can just jump off if needs be.

They look properly scary and alive, a view down their throats to the furnace within. Enjoyed seeing that one on the finale, was like swatting a fly, all the chunks raining down.

I think it needs them as otherwise it would be a bit like a historical drama.

Have to say, the finale was good but not enjoyed it as much as GOT, dont think the characters were as strong.

Well I thought it was bloody brilliant. The cinematography, the composition, the acting, the score. The tension throughout the flying scenes was palpable and I thought the CGI was spot on.

Hard to compare to GoT, because it isn't. But it didn't disappoint for me, despite a slow start. Gutted its a two year wait for the next!

I’m really enjoying the general craftsmanship but it’s all felt a bit Harry Potter towards the end, tts in capes flying about.

Looking forward to some battles and skullduggery next season.

well the whole HotD did end up getting better but...

- those are wyverns not dragons (just to add fuel to the fire hehe )
- the wings flapping (attempted escape from Lord Borros), to my eyes, looked dreadful
- Paddy C's makeup looked pretty dan cool
- Ser Footfetish is a loathsome weasel
- Princes Rhaenys really, really fked up
- Otto H has shown what we always suspected
- I got confused and thought that 1 eye was the elder brother for quite a bit
- on balance I preferred LotR:RoP

Filming due to start in Dec apparently of S2.

Blockbuster series aren't typically released during the Summer time - too many competing forms of entertainment which lower viewing figures. I suspect it will be late autumn at the earliest.
