It's a very short lap - only 65 seconds and Collins was still 2 seconds faster than him, but it certainly seems to me that Armsrtrong can really drive - the way he can hold the McLaren in a slide and have full power down on that last corner whilst lighting up the rear wheels shows he can take a RWD hypercar to its limits.
Don't forget, Collins span that same car and called it a "weapon", so not an easy car to handle.
Agreed - it certainly looked like he was doing stuff I wouldn't dare get close to - that's for sure.Don't forget, Collins span that same car and called it a "weapon", so not an easy car to handle.
The thing is, I find it hard to believe that the Collins spin wasn't deliberate for content creation but at the same time, it's all too easy to accuse them of fabricating stuff for clicks.

I'd hate to be that cynical, to think everything is deliberate or staged. The thing is, I find it hard to believe that the Collins spin wasn't deliberate for content creation but at the same time, it's all too easy to accuse them of fabricating stuff for clicks.
The guy is a racing driver, he wouldn't spin the car on purpose just so MA gets a clickbait title. Like you say, it's all too easy.
I think a big part of Mat's car control comes from time spent on a sim, and the knowledge that if he crashes a car he gets content rebuilding it.
It's the same reason I never pushed myself properly on a motorbike track day, I didn't want to damage my pride and joy. Stick me on a £1000 track bike and I'd be fine with dropping it.

That feeds into his YouTube content too - he's not afraid of pushing himself and taking on challenges that others warn him off.

He did a fair bit of drifting with the AE86 as well so he has some experience with car control at the limit, that said his BMX experience probably helps too.
Did he ever do a video of him drifting the 86? I know he built it as a drift car but I can't remember seeing him actually take it to a drift day. M3 will be interesting, not an expert so no idea if its repairable or not.
I guess the gamble behind that one could be that even if its not repairable, engine and drivetrain are all good, so make a pretty exciting swap into the 6 Series that's body had the full rustoration completed on the Yorkshire channel. Be a pretty awesome restomod!

Yes. It's not great being this cynical but I'm sure Ben isn't there just for fun so would do what he's paid to do. He has the skill to exactly what he wants the car to do whereas all the in car stuff was fairly low speed with Matt and what was he trying to do lighting the tyres up near the finish of his lap? If he's half as good as he looks, he's very talented.
I tend to keep an eye on YouTubers Limited companies on companies house, and Mat has just published his year-end accounts for the financial year ending July 2023.
It's quite hard to understand a true financial position from them, but he had a corp tax bill of ~£211k, so you could guesstimate his pre-tax profit was ~£850k - fair play to him.
That's not including finances from raffles of his cars done via High Speed Comps.

High speed comps is nothing to do with him, Hanna and a guy from Mallory Performance own it, it is a good way to sell the cars with no comeback plus he netted over £600k for the M5 by all accounts, how it works behind the scenes is a mystery to me as it has to be taxed in some way plus how does he got paid for the cars at the end. It's quite hard to understand a true financial position from them, but he had a corp tax bill of ~£211k, so you could guesstimate his pre-tax profit was ~£850k - fair play to him.

Legally speaking yes it has nothing to do with him, but as you say, ran by his partner and the Mallory guy. 90% of the draws are his cars - which all go for silly odds. High speed are due to publish their accounts in the next 6 weeks anyway.RTPT said:

It'll be more than £850k, 8/12 of those profits would have been taxed at 19% (the rate increased from April 23). He's absolutely flying, you have to admire the achievement. He lives about a mile and a half from me, maybe I could pop round and tap him for a loan. You must live in the village that non locals pronounce with 2 W’s then. I drove by his bungalow for over 4 years to get to work, certainly picked a spot no one other than the haulage company over the road could complain about the noise!Promised Land said:
